alone
Scissorkiss Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
It's not soon returning,
Shriveled like my heart
With all of this yearning.
Night is now falling
Like a stone to the sea,
I wonder do you ever think
Fondly of me?
Everything comes
Everything goes
Why does this comfort me
When the silence grows?
The sun has vanished
Sinking like a stone,
The moon is my muse
When she finds me alone.
Night has now fallen
Like my hopes from the sky,
I lay down to sleep
Per chance to die.
Everything comes
Everything goes
Why does this comfort me
When the silence grows?
You should have left me
Well enough alone
In Scissorkiss' song, "Alone", the sun has vanished and the night has come like a stone, shrunken with the singer's yearning for someone. The mood of the song is introspective and melancholic, conveying a sense of loss and isolation. The singer wonders if the person they are yearning for thinks fondly of them as well. The lyrics can be interpreted as the singer mourning the loss of a relationship, and finding solace in the cyclical nature of life and death, as represented by the coming and going of the sun and the moon.
Throughout the song, Scissorkiss explores the fleeting aspects of life through imagery of the sun, the moon, the sea, and the sky. There is a sense of loneliness and detachment that permeates the emotion of the song, reinforced by the repetition of the phrase "everything comes, everything goes". The final line, "you should have left me well enough alone", can be interpreted as the singer taking responsibility for the loss of their relationship, and acknowledging that they were not enough to keep it alive. This line adds an extra layer of sadness to the song, as it conveys a sense of resignation and acceptance of the singer's own flaws.

The sun has vanished
The day has ended
It's not soon returning,
It is not coming back anytime soon
Shriveled like my heart
My heart feels empty and desolate
With all of this yearning.
I feel an intense desire for something
Night is now falling
Dusk is upon us
Like a stone to the sea,
It is sinking fast
I wonder do you ever think
Do you ever consider
Fondly of me?
Of the good memories we had shared?
Everything comes
Every situation arrives
Everything goes
All circumstances disappear
Why does this comfort me
Why does this make me feel content?
When the silence grows?
As the stillness becomes more pronounced
The sun has vanished
The daylight has left
Sinking like a stone,
Descending like a pebble
The moon is my muse
The satellite inspires me
When she finds me alone.
When I am solitary
Night has now fallen
Darkness is here now
Like my hopes from the sky,
Descending like my aspirations
I lay down to sleep
I am about to rest
Per chance to die.
Perhaps to die
Everything comes
All situations arrive
Everything goes
All circumstances disappear
Why does this comfort me
What makes me feel content?
When the silence grows?
As the stillness becomes more pronounced
You should have left me
You would have been better off leaving me alone
Well enough alone
Sufficiently alone
