Scooch won a contest on the BBC Saturday Morning show Live & Kicking in 1999. They competed against a boyband to have their single released. Even though the bands were already formed, this contest was unique as it pre-dated the format of the first music talent reality show, ITV's Popstars in 2000, where the band Hear’Say was created from the show.
During the height of their short-lived popularity, Scooch supported 5ive and B*Witched on their arena tours, as well as appearing on many popular music and children's programmes at the time. They also toured around many primary schools in order to gain a fan base... a strange aproach, that did not really work!
In September 2000, EMI-Parlophone terminated their contract after four top 30 hits in the UK singles chart. The group decided against seeking renewal elsewhere. They got back together in January 2004 to perform at the London nightclub G-A-Y's Gone But Not Forgotten night. The success of this prompted the band to do a tour of several gay venues and events around the country.
The Groups Single Chart Record:
"When My Baby" - UK Singles Chart Peak Position #29, October 1999
"More Than I Needed To Know" - UK Singles Chart Peak Position #5, Japan Singles Chart Peak Position #1, January 2000
"The Best Is Yet To Come" - UK Singles Chart Peak Position #12, April 2000
"For Sure" - UK Singles Chart Peak Position #15, July 2000
The Groups most successful song 'More than I Needed To Know' became so popular in Japan it was featured on a video game over there called 'DDRMAX2: Dance Dance Revolution 7thMIX.'
In 2006, Russ appeared in the Channel 4 and E4 TV show Boys Will Be Girls, where three ex-popstar men formed a new girl band and attempted to pass as women.
On 28 February 2007, the BBC announced that Scooch have reformed to perform one of the entries in the fourth Making Your Mind Up programme. This was broadcast on BBC One on 17 March 2007. Scooch's song, Flying The Flag (For You) is a cheeky pop song about flying, with the band playing the roles of airline cabin crew, much like Sestre did for Slovenia in Eurovision 2002.
Scooch competed against Brian Harvey, Liz McClarnon, Hawkins & Brown, Big Brovaz and newcomer Cyndi. They won and represented the United Kingdom in the Eurovision Song Contest final on Saturday 12 May 2007 in the Finnish capital, Helsinki. Unfortunately, on the night, they came last but one which sparked major controversy in the UK as to how such a popular song wasn't voted for across Europe.
Scooch's CD's from the past have became hugely popular . Their Album 'Four Sure' is selling for over £20 on internet bidding website eBay

Monday, I thought I saw him smile.
Tuesday, I caught that look in his eye,
as he was walking by.
Wednesday, was when he asked me out.
Thursday, I was left in no doubt
about the way I felt,
and now I'm not alone, because I know...
I love him, that's for sure,
and I'll never let him go.
Ba-dup-bup-baya-ba-da-bup, baaah
Never felt this way before;
not afraid to let it show.
Is it really a wonder,
the spell I've been under
has no cure?
I love him, that's for sure.
Friday, I just couldn't wait.
Saturday, we stayed out until late,
and he will remain
someone to call my own, because I know...
I love him, that's for sure,
and I'll never let him go.

Scooch's song "For Sure" tells the story of a girl who falls in love with a guy she sees every day of the week. The first verse recounts each day of the week, and the moment she realizes she has feelings for him. By Wednesday, he asks her out, and by Friday, they are together. The chorus emphasizes her intense love for him, and she proclaims that she'll never let him go. The song ends with a repetition of the chorus, showing how much she is under his spell and will always love him.
The song is a classic example of a pop love song, with a catchy melody and lyrics that express the joy and uncertainty of falling in love. The repetition of "Ba-dup-bup-baya" reinforces the catchy melody, and the bouncy rhythm of the song adds to its upbeat feel. The song is relatable, as many people have experienced the thrill of meeting someone for the first time and falling in love with them.
Overall, Scooch's "For Sure" is a fun and goofy song about being under the spell of love. Its catchy melody and relatable lyrics make it a classic pop love song.

Such a shame this band wasn't that much appreciated. They only released 1 album but this album was pure pop bliss and perfection. I reckon they had better songs than Steps. Their songs "More than I needed to know" and "The best is yet to come" are pop masterpieces !!!! They encapsulate both STEPS' and ABBA's sound ! I's love them to be back and release new music. That type of music can still appeal to a gay audience in the UK. Steps have been acknowledged as the true saviours of POP so now SCOOCH can follow their footSTEPS and break into the UK !!! Please SCOOCH, come back !!!!

I'll be honest, this is probably their best song.
