Scooch won a contest on the BBC Saturday Morning show Live & Kicking in 1999. They competed against a boyband to have their single released. Even though the bands were already formed, this contest was unique as it pre-dated the format of the first music talent reality show, ITV's Popstars in 2000, where the band Hear’Say was created from the show.
During the height of their short-lived popularity, Scooch supported 5ive and B*Witched on their arena tours, as well as appearing on many popular music and children's programmes at the time. They also toured around many primary schools in order to gain a fan base... a strange aproach, that did not really work!
In September 2000, EMI-Parlophone terminated their contract after four top 30 hits in the UK singles chart. The group decided against seeking renewal elsewhere. They got back together in January 2004 to perform at the London nightclub G-A-Y's Gone But Not Forgotten night. The success of this prompted the band to do a tour of several gay venues and events around the country.
The Groups Single Chart Record:
"When My Baby" - UK Singles Chart Peak Position #29, October 1999
"More Than I Needed To Know" - UK Singles Chart Peak Position #5, Japan Singles Chart Peak Position #1, January 2000
"The Best Is Yet To Come" - UK Singles Chart Peak Position #12, April 2000
"For Sure" - UK Singles Chart Peak Position #15, July 2000
The Groups most successful song 'More than I Needed To Know' became so popular in Japan it was featured on a video game over there called 'DDRMAX2: Dance Dance Revolution 7thMIX.'
In 2006, Russ appeared in the Channel 4 and E4 TV show Boys Will Be Girls, where three ex-popstar men formed a new girl band and attempted to pass as women.
On 28 February 2007, the BBC announced that Scooch have reformed to perform one of the entries in the fourth Making Your Mind Up programme. This was broadcast on BBC One on 17 March 2007. Scooch's song, Flying The Flag (For You) is a cheeky pop song about flying, with the band playing the roles of airline cabin crew, much like Sestre did for Slovenia in Eurovision 2002.
Scooch competed against Brian Harvey, Liz McClarnon, Hawkins & Brown, Big Brovaz and newcomer Cyndi. They won and represented the United Kingdom in the Eurovision Song Contest final on Saturday 12 May 2007 in the Finnish capital, Helsinki. Unfortunately, on the night, they came last but one which sparked major controversy in the UK as to how such a popular song wasn't voted for across Europe.
Scooch's CD's from the past have became hugely popular . Their Album 'Four Sure' is selling for over £20 on internet bidding website eBay
Music to My Heart
Scooch Lyrics

Cried unrequited tears,
I've lived all the lines for so long,
But never felt you near.
And I listen to my radio,
Every record in the chart,
When you said 'be my baby'
Now that's what I call music,
Music to my heart,
Now that's what I call music,
Music to my heart.
(Call music, music,
I call music, music to my heart,
Music to my heart.)
And I've moved to every rhythm,
And danced to every beat.
All the hits I've sung along to
Never really got a hold on me.
All the time I've ever known you,
Never thought we'd come this far.
When you said that you even cared,
Well, that was music to my heart.
Now that's what I call music,
Music to my heart,
Now that's what I call music,
Music to my heart.
(I call music, music,
I call music, music to my heart,
Music, music to my heart.)
Music.
I've heard every kind of love song,
Cried unrequited tears,
I've lived all the lines for so long,
But never felt you near.
And I listen to my radio,
Every record in the chart,
When you said 'be my baby'
It made the fires start.
Now that's what I call music,
Music to my heart,
Now that's what I call music,
Music to my heart.
(I call music, music,
I call music, music to my heart,
I call music, music,
I call music to my heart.)
Now that's what I call music,
Music to my heart,
Now that's what I call music,
Music to my heart.
The song "Music to My Heart" by Scooch is an upbeat pop track that talks about finding true love and the power of music to make hearts beat faster. The singer begins by saying that they've heard every kind of love song, cried unrequited tears, and lived all the lines for so long without ever feeling the person they truly loved near. However, they listen to the radio and every record in the chart, until they hear the words "be my baby", and that's when the fires start. It's clear that the singer of the song is talking about a transformative moment, where everything they've heard before pales in comparison to this specific moment when they realize that the music is about them and their true love.
The song continues to roll through the chorus, repeating the phrase "Now that's what I call music, music to my heart", emphasizing how powerful music can be as an emotional motivator. The singer goes on to say that they've moved to every rhythm, danced to every beat, and sung along with every hit on the radio, but none of it got a hold on them until they found their true love. The last verse echoes the first, emphasizing how many love songs they have heard, how many tears they've cried, and how many lines they've lived. However, with their true love in their life, they've found that music means something more to them, that it's a way to express their own love and passion for the person they love.
Overall, "Music to My Heart" is a song that, although it follows common themes of love and music, manages to create a message of superiority of "the one" to any other love story out there. The power of finding someone you truly love is exemplified through the idea that, once you do, music and everything else pales in comparison, making your heart beat stronger than it ever did before.
