Scooch won a contest on the BBC Saturday Morning show Live & Kicking in 1999. They competed against a boyband to have their single released. Even though the bands were already formed, this contest was unique as it pre-dated the format of the first music talent reality show, ITV's Popstars in 2000, where the band Hear’Say was created from the show.
During the height of their short-lived popularity, Scooch supported 5ive and B*Witched on their arena tours, as well as appearing on many popular music and children's programmes at the time. They also toured around many primary schools in order to gain a fan base... a strange aproach, that did not really work!
In September 2000, EMI-Parlophone terminated their contract after four top 30 hits in the UK singles chart. The group decided against seeking renewal elsewhere. They got back together in January 2004 to perform at the London nightclub G-A-Y's Gone But Not Forgotten night. The success of this prompted the band to do a tour of several gay venues and events around the country.
The Groups Single Chart Record:
"When My Baby" - UK Singles Chart Peak Position #29, October 1999
"More Than I Needed To Know" - UK Singles Chart Peak Position #5, Japan Singles Chart Peak Position #1, January 2000
"The Best Is Yet To Come" - UK Singles Chart Peak Position #12, April 2000
"For Sure" - UK Singles Chart Peak Position #15, July 2000
The Groups most successful song 'More than I Needed To Know' became so popular in Japan it was featured on a video game over there called 'DDRMAX2: Dance Dance Revolution 7thMIX.'
In 2006, Russ appeared in the Channel 4 and E4 TV show Boys Will Be Girls, where three ex-popstar men formed a new girl band and attempted to pass as women.
On 28 February 2007, the BBC announced that Scooch have reformed to perform one of the entries in the fourth Making Your Mind Up programme. This was broadcast on BBC One on 17 March 2007. Scooch's song, Flying The Flag (For You) is a cheeky pop song about flying, with the band playing the roles of airline cabin crew, much like Sestre did for Slovenia in Eurovision 2002.
Scooch competed against Brian Harvey, Liz McClarnon, Hawkins & Brown, Big Brovaz and newcomer Cyndi. They won and represented the United Kingdom in the Eurovision Song Contest final on Saturday 12 May 2007 in the Finnish capital, Helsinki. Unfortunately, on the night, they came last but one which sparked major controversy in the UK as to how such a popular song wasn't voted for across Europe.
Scooch's CD's from the past have became hugely popular . Their Album 'Four Sure' is selling for over £20 on internet bidding website eBay
One Of These Days

One of these perfect days
In your private universe
The bubble's gonna burst
Oh can't you tell when the party's over?
There's more to life than having fun in the sun
Leave those fantasies behind
When your world has finally crumbled
Don't come running to me you see
I may not be there for you
And what are you gonna do?
When will it dawn on you?
Dreams that you had for so long can go wrong
One of these days believe me
One of these perfect days
In your private universe t
The bubble's gonna burst
You better change your ways
One of these days believe me
One of these days you'll see
You're gonna have to leave this land of make-believe
And throw away the key
When your ivory tower has tumbled
And you finally hit the ground, look around
I won't there to pick you up
Your final 'last chance' is through
A reality check for you
You better wake up cause you're going nowhere
One of these days believe me
One of these perfect days
In your private universe
The bubble's gonna burst
You better change your ways
One of these days believe me
One of these days you'll see
You're gonna have to leave this land of make-believe
And throw away the key
And what are you gonna do?
When will it dawn on you?
Dreams that you had for so long can go wrong
One of these days believe me
One of these perfect days
In your private universe the bubbles gonna burst
You better change your ways
One of these days believe me
One of these days you'll see
You're gonna have to leave this land of make-believe
And throw away the key
One of these days believe me
One of these perfect days
In your private universe the bubbles gonna burst
You better change your ways
The lyrics of Scooch's song "One Of These Days" caution against living in a fantasy world and ignoring reality. The song speaks about a "private universe" that is bound to burst and urges the listener to wake up from their fantasies before it's too late. The lyrics inform that there's more to life than having fun in the sun and warn against relying on other people to pick us up when we fall.
The song is a reminder that our dreams can go wrong and that we need to take a reality check before it is too late. The lyrics inform that when your world has finally crumbled, don't come running to me you see, because I may not be there for you. Hence, the listener should be aware of the consequences of living in a "land of make-believe". Ultimately, the bubble is going to burst, and it is better to change ways before that happens.
To conclude, "One Of These Days" is a warning to the listener about the dangerous power of living in a dream world. The lyrics advise us to face our reality and change our ways before it is too late.
