Hole In The Sky

I'm seeing nowhere through the eyes of a lie
I'm getting closer to the end of the line
I'm living easy where the sun doesn't shine
I'm living in a room without any view
I'm living free because the rent's never due
The synonyms of all the things that I've said
Hole in the sky, gateway to heaven
Window in time, through it I fly
I've seen the stars disappear in the sun
The shooting's easy if you've got the right gun
And even though I'm sitting waiting for Mars
I don't believe there's any future in cause
Hole in the sky, gateway to heaven
Window in time, through it I fly
Yeah
I've watched the dogs of war enjoying their feast
I've seen the western world go down in the east
The food of love became the greed of our time
But now I'm living on the profits of pride
The lyrics of Scorpion Child's song "Hole in the Sky" can be interpreted in a number of ways, but seem to reflect a sense of disillusionment with the world and a desire to escape from reality. The first verse speaks to a feeling of being trapped, of seeing the world through a lens of lies and being aware that the end of life is coming closer. The second verse references materialism and the futility of words, with many things being reduced to riddles that offer no real answer. However, the chorus, with its repetition of the refrain "hole in the sky," points to a sense of hope and possibility. The hole in the sky can be seen as a portal to another world, a way of escape from the drudgery and lies of everyday life. The verses that follow are darker, with references to war, greed, and the end of the world, but the chorus offers a way out.
