Mad World
Scott Bradlee's Postmodern Jukebox feat. Puddles Pity Party Haley Reinhart Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

All around me are familiar faces
Worn out places, worn out faces
Bright and early for the daily races
Going nowhere, going nowhere
Their tears are filling up their glasses
No expression, no expression
Hide my head I wanna drown my sorrow
No tomorrow, no tomorrow
And I find it kind of funny
I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you,
I find it hard to take
When people run in circles it's a very, very
Mad world, mad world
Children waiting for the day they feel good
Happy birthday, happy birthday
And to feel the way that every child should
Sit and listen, sit and listen
Went to school and I was very nervous
No one knew me, no one knew me
Hello teacher tell me, what's my lesson?
Look right through me, look right through me
And I find it kind of funny
I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you,
I find it hard to take

When people run in circles it's a very, very
Mad world, mad world, enlarging your world, mad world

Overall Meaning

"Mad World" is a song composed by Roland Orzabal of the British band Tears for Fears. The song was originally recorded in 1982 but gained popularity when it was covered by Gary Jules and Michael Andrews in 2001. The Postmodern Jukebox version of the song features Puddles Pity Party and Haley Reinhart on lead vocals. The lyrics of the song are a commentary on society and the state of the world. It talks about how people are stuck in a daily routine, going nowhere and feeling trapped. The line "Their tears are filling up their glasses" refers to the fact that people are so unhappy that they're turning to alcohol to cope with their problems.

The chorus talks about people running in circles, symbolizing the repetition and monotony of life. The line "The dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had" is a paradoxical statement, indicating that people might dream about the release of death being better than facing their current reality. The second verse focuses on children and their struggles to survive in an adult world. It talks about how their innocence is being ripped away from them and how the education system is failing them by not recognizing their individuality.

Overall, "Mad World" is a haunting portrayal of the loss of identity and individuality in society. It is a critique of the emptiness and futility of modern life.

The way he pulls his volume back when she joins in, to allow her to shine... just amazing!!!

This is one of my favorite parts. Puddles is a great front singer, but he's also generous enough to let Haley take the spotlight and take over the mic. It makes the contrast between his smooth, silky tenor and her striking, smokier tones even stronger.

Yeah I was really excited when I found this. They are two of my absolute favorites to listen to and I knew them together would be good
