Get Lucky
Scott Bradlee Postmodern Jukebox Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Like the legend of the Phoenix,
All ends with beginnings.
What keeps the planets spinning,
The force from the beginning.

We′ve come too far
To forget who we are,
So let's raise the bar
And our cups to the stars.

I′m up all night till the sun
I'm up all night to get some
I'm up all night for good fun,
I′m up all night to get lucky.

We′re up all night till the sun,
We're up all night to get some.
We′re up all night for good fun,
We're up all night to get lucky.

The present has no ribbon,
Your gift keeps on giving.
What is this I′m feeling?
If you want to leave, I'm with it.

We′ve come too far
To forget who we are,
So let's raise the bar
And our cups to the stars.

I'm up all night till the sun
I′m up all night to get some
I′m up all night for good fun,
I'm up all night to get lucky.

We′re up all night till the sun,
We're up all night to get some.
We′re up all night for good fun,
We're up all night to get lucky.

We′ve come too far
To forget who we are,
So let's raise the bar
And our cups to the stars.

I'm up all night till the sun
I′m up all night to get some
I′m up all night for good fun,
I'm up all night to get lucky.

We′re up all night till the sun,
We're up all night to get some.
We′re up all night for good fun,
We're up all night to get lucky.

We′re up all night to get lucky.
We're up all night to get lucky.
We're up all night to get lucky.
We′re up all night to get lucky.

We′re up all night to get lucky.
We're up all night to get lucky.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Postmodern Jukebox's "Get Lucky" are relatively straightforward, but there are a few points worth noting. "Like the legend of the Phoenix, all ends with beginnings" seems to suggest a cycle of destruction and renewal, as the mythical bird is consumed by flames and reborn from the ashes. The second line, "What keeps the planets spinning, the force from the beginning," may be a nod to the Big Bang theory and the idea that the universe was set in motion by a massive explosion.

The chorus of the song is a simple repetition of the phrase "I'm up all night to get lucky," which can be interpreted in a few different ways. On one level, the phrase can be taken literally as a desire to stay out all night and have a good time. However, it could also be read as a nod to the futility of chasing after something that may never come to fruition. The "present has no ribbon, your gift keeps on giving" line also supports this idea, suggesting that the experience of striving for something is more valuable than the end result.

The final lines of the song, "We're up all night to get lucky," are repeated several times as the song fades out. This could be seen as a kind of mantra or affirmation, encouraging the listener to keep pushing towards their goals even when it seems like they're not making any progress.

I found a very cool bar in Istanbul a couple of nights ago where they had PMJ on continual loop.... I noticed how good when the music was. I couldn't believe how good this one in is in particular (although it is definitely one of the more frivolous ones). I was very happy that I was able to track them down. I have already bought one of their albums and intend to buy some more/all of them.

I fecking love this song. I don't care about the copyright controversy, or that he's drinking alcohol, or that some people think drinking an Irish drink while pretending to be Irish is racist, or that Bradlee took this down. It's still damn amazing. He sounds like the perfect satirical Irish tenor, everyone's doing deadpan pretty well, the violin is delicious, they've turned a disco song into a waltz. C'mon people. Give it some love.

Gente, que perfeição!

I really enjoyed this cover, I think his tonality really adds a great quality to it, and their harmonizing is fantastic. Plus violinists could make it all by themselves. You guys are my heroes!

"How can we make it obvious that this guy is Irish?"
"I dunno give him a can of Guinness?"
"Brilliant!"

dermur68

Full disclosure...lucky charms are not sold in Ireland. Irish people have only ever seen them on American TV.

XanderB100
