Maps
Scott Bradlee Postmodern Jukebox feat. Morgan James Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I miss taste of the sweet life
I miss the conversation
I'm searching for a song tonight
I'm changing all of the stations
I like to think that, we had it all
We drew a map to a better place
But on that road I took a fall
Oh baby why did you run away?

I was there for you
In your darkest times
I was there for you
In your darkest nights

But I wonder where were you
When I was at my worst
Down on my knees
And you said you had my back
So I wonder where were you
All the roads you took came back to me
So I'm following the map that leads to you
The map that leads to you
Ain't nothing I can do
The map that leads to you
Following, following, following to you
The map that leads to you
Ain't nothing I can do

The map that leads to you
Following, following, following

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Maps" by Scott Bradlee's Postmodern Jukebox featuring Morgan James tell a story of a person who is missing the good times in their relationship and is now searching for a way to reconnect with their partner. The song starts with the person admitting that they miss the sweet life in their relationship and the conversations they used to have. However, things have changed and now they are changing all the stations on the radio in search of a new song to cheer them up. They still believe that they had everything they needed to make their relationship work, but something went wrong, and they took a fall. Now, they wonder why their partner ran away when they needed them the most.

The chorus of the song reveals that the singer was always there for their partner in their darkest times and nights. They wonder where their partner was when they were at their worst, down on their knees, and needed their help. The singer thought that their partner had their back, but they were missing when they needed them the most. The phrase "all the roads you took came back to me" can be interpreted as the person feeling that their partner's decisions have had a negative impact on their relationship. Despite everything, the singer is committed to finding their way back to their partner, and they are following the map that leads to them.

@epr8974

I understand why this would be a popular comment here, but most people like living in their own apartment because this means that they have some time for themselves. I listen to a lot of music and a lot of that music is in this style, but there are times when I am not in the mood for it. And at those times the last thing I would want was the muffled sound of a live band coming through my ceiling, no matter how awesome the music is.

I just hope they deal with this in person rather than through lawyers. I mean, in theory it should be as simple as:

DING DONG
Neighbour: "Hello? Oh, it's you. Good to see you!"
Scott: "Yeah, hi! About that music thing. I wanted to ask you if it was okay if I were to bring a few artists over to practice and record for about two hours on Thursday from five PM."
Neighbour: "Thursday... That's not very good for me. I'll be home from work then and, frankly, I'd really like to have some time to settle down then. Do you have your calendar with you? I'm sure we can find a date."
Scott: "Thanks. I'll go and fetch it real quick."
