Kiss the Son
Scott Brenner Lyrics

And the people plot a vain thing?
The kings of the earth set themselves
And the rulers take counsel together against the Lord
And against his Anointed
Saying: Let us break their bonds in pieces
And cast away their cords from us
And cast away their cords from us
He who sits in the heavens shall laugh
The Lord shall hold them in derision
Then he shall speak to them in his wrath
And distress them in his deep displeasure
Yet I have set my King on my holy hill of Zion (I have set my King on my holy hill) (set my King)
Yet I have set my King on my holy hill of Zion (I have set my King on my holy hill) (of Zion)
Yet I have set my King on my holy hill of Zion (I have set my King on my holy hill) (I′ve set my King)
I will declare the decree
The Lord has said to me
You are my Son, today I have begotten you
Ask of me and I will give you the nations for your inheritance
And the ends of the earth for your possession
You shall break them with a rod of iron (you shall break them with a rod of iron)
You shall dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel
You are my Son
King of kings and Lord of lords (King of kings and Lord of lords)
King of kings and Lord of lords (King of kings and Lord of lords)
King of kings and Lord of lords (King of kings and Lord of lords)
King of kings and Lord of lords (King of kings and Lord of lords)
King of kings and Lord of lords (King of kings and Lord of lords)
King of kings and Lord of lords (King of kings and Lord of lords)
King of kings and Lord of lords (King of kings and Lord of lords)
King of kings, Lord of lords (King of kings and Lord of lords)
(Kiss the Son)
Now therefore be wise, oh, kings
Be instructed, oh, you judges of the earth
Serve the Lord with fear
And rejoice with trembling
Kiss the Son (kiss the Son)
Lest he be angry
And you perish in the way
When his wrath is kindled by a little
Blessed are all those who put their trust in him (in him)
Blessed are all those who put their trust in him (in him)
Blessed are all those who put their trust in him, in him
Blessed are all those who put their trust, put their trust in him
Blessed are all those who put their trust in him (blessed are all those who put their trust in him)
Trust in him, trust in him, trust in him (blessed are all those who put their trust in him)
(Blessed are all those who put their trust in him) blessed!
Blessed are all those who put their trust, they′ll put their trust in you
Blessed are all those who put their trust in him, in him
Blessed are all those who put their trust, put their trust in him
Yeah!
In “Kiss the Son” by Scott Brenner, the lyrics focus on God’s divine sovereignty, and how the nations may plot and rebel against Him and against His Anointed, but ultimately God is in control. The first few lines question why the nations plot futilely against God and the rulers come together to rebel, seeking to break free from God’s authority. However, this is met with a sense of humor and derision from God, who sets His King in Zion and offers Him the nations as His inheritance.
The song quotes God’s decree to His Son, where He offers Him the world, nation’s and people’s souls’ possession, and promises that they will be shattered like pottery, and crushed under His iron scepter. The Kings and Judges of the earth are implored to serve and be wise in the fear of the Lord and kiss the Son before they perish in His path.
Overall, the song Kiss the Son beckons us to remember God’s divine sovereignty, His power over nations and the ultimate authority of His Son, calling us to put our trust in Him.

Why do the nations rage
Why do people and leaders of nations become angry and agitated
And the people plot a vain thing?
And why do they plan things that are ultimately worthless or pointless?
The kings of the earth set themselves
The leaders of the world join forces
And the rulers take counsel together against the Lord
And they plan together against the Lord, the highest authority
And against his Anointed
And they plan against the chosen one of God
Saying: Let us break their bonds in pieces
Saying: Let us destroy their power and authority
And cast away their cords from us
And remove their influence from our lives
He who sits in the heavens shall laugh
But God, who sits in heaven, finds their plans amusing
The Lord shall hold them in derision
The Lord shall mock them
Then he shall speak to them in his wrath
Then God will speak to them in anger
And distress them in his deep displeasure
And will cause them great suffering in His displeasure
Yet I have set my King on my holy hill of Zion
But I have established my appointed king on my holy mountain of Zion
I will declare the decree
I will proclaim the law
The Lord has said to me
God has spoken to me
You are my Son, today I have begotten you
You are my Son. Today I have become your father
Ask of me and I will give you the nations for your inheritance
Ask of me, and I will give you the nations as your inheritance
And the ends of the earth for your possession
And the farthest reaches of the earth as your possession
You shall break them with a rod of iron
You will rule them with great strength
You shall dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel
You shall break them into tiny pieces like a potter's jar
You are my Son
You are my son
King of kings and Lord of lords
The ultimate king and the supreme lord of all
Now therefore be wise, oh, kings
So, leaders, be wise
Be instructed, oh, you judges of the earth
Be taught, you judges of the world
Serve the Lord with fear
Serve the Lord with reverence
And rejoice with trembling
Be joyful but also fear God
Kiss the Son
Pay homage to the Son
Lest he be angry
Or he will become angry
And you perish in the way
And you will perish on your journey
When his wrath is kindled by a little
When his anger is sparked even a little bit
Blessed are all those who put their trust in him
Fortunate are those who rely on Him
