He emerged in the 1970s and at the time he was considered to be one of the few musicians of real talent who carried the tradition of the classic jazz tenor saxophone in the style of Ben Webster, Coleman Hawkins as well as Zoot Sims and Don Byas forward. He began playing in various rhythm & blues outfits in Providence (Rhode Island), but subsequently shifted to jazz and the tenor saxophone. In 1976 he moved to New York City at, in part the recommendation of Roy Eldridge. He there joined Benny Goodman for a period of time. During this time, he also developed an alcohol problem.,[1] In the early 1980's he had formed his own quintet and toured all over the world. By then free from his drinking habit, in 1982 he had matured sufficiently to be able to break away from the spell of mainly Ben Webster and Zoot Sims, of whom he had been criticized of imitating. From this point on both his playing and his tone was very much his own.
Living in New York City, he toured all around the world during the 1980's, playing Japan and all over Europe. He was in particular a recurrent visitor to the UK, Sweden and the Grand Parade du Jazz, held in Nice, France. By the early 1990's he was ready for a next step and by 1994 when he released Organic Duke, he had developed a quite singular style: a large, well rounded but still focused tone and improvising, ostensibly still based on the swing idiom (especially Ellington), but incorporating more modern elements. During this period, he relocated to London, and formed his current quartet, featuring John Pearce (p), Dave Green (b) and Steve Brown (dr). He is currently active touring all over Europe.
He has had over forty albums as a lead most on the Concord Records label.
East Of The Sun
Scott Hamilton Lyrics

We'll build a dream house of love dear
Close to the sun in the day
Near to the moon at night
We'll live in a lovely way dear
Sharing our love in the pale moonlight
Just you and I,
Love will not die,
We'll keep it that way
Up among the stars
We'll find a harmony of life to a lovely tune
East of the sun and west of the moon dear
East of the sun and west of the moon
The lyrics of Scott Hamilton's song East of the Sun are filled with romantic imagery and symbolism. The song speaks of building a dream house of love in a place where the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, and where the moon can be seen at night. This dream house is not a physical structure, but rather a metaphorical representation of the couple's love and their desire to live a life that is filled with beauty, love, and harmony.
The song suggests that the couple plans to live in a lovely way, sharing their love in the pale moonlight. The imagery of the moon and the stars is used to convey the idea of a love that is transcendent, and that can withstand the tests of time and distance. The line "Love will not die, we'll keep it that way" is particularly poignant, as it speaks directly to the fear that many people have of losing the love of their life.
Overall, the song is a beautiful expression of romantic love, and the desire to build a life that is filled with happiness and joy. Its imagery and symbolism are well-crafted, and the lyrics are delivered with a sense of sincerity and emotional depth that is rare in modern music.

It takes a lot of knowledge to construct so clean a line that it seems written instead of improvised. And it takes a great sensitivity to have such a nice, warm velvety tone. Scott Hamilton is undoubtely a jazz legend by his own right and weight.

Really a great tenor saxist. Underrated but a master of his instrument. As stated previously, a tight little group that swings. Should hear more of them.

Swinging. Great group. I really like seeing the atmosphere and the setup where
the audience and its tables are located right on the bandstand. Would love to have the whole video of this event.
