Second Chance

Sometimes I'm always right
I'd love to change it but you know I can't, so
I need a second chance
I know I'll do you wrong
That's why I wrote this song
I hate to ask you so far in advance but
I came into this world alone
And I've always felt on my own
I came into this world alone
And I've always felt on my own
My reputation is
Not how I want to live
And how I'm living isn't worth a damn, so
I need a second chance
I saw her downtown
I guess she's happy now
I, myself, have found some true romance so
I got a second chance
I came into this world alone
And I finally found a home
The lyrics of Scott Miller's "Second Chance" portray a plea for forgiveness and redemption. The song expresses regret for past wrongs and the desire for a chance to make things right. The first verse acknowledges the singer's tendency to always think they are right and the frustration that can cause in a relationship. However, they also recognize their inability to change this aspect of their personality. They are asking for their partner to give them another chance despite their flaws.
The second verse continues with the theme of personal faults and the impact they have had on the singer's relationships. They admit that they are not perfect and have made mistakes, but they have written this song as a way of expressing their remorse and willingness to try again. The chorus emphasizes the need for a second chance and the desire to escape a negative reputation or way of life.
The final verse takes a slightly different perspective, alluding to the singer's past loneliness and the search for a place to belong. The mention of "true romance" suggests that they may have finally found happiness and love, but they still need forgiveness and the opportunity to start over with those they have wronged.
Overall, "Second Chance" is a poignant and relatable song about the complexities of human relationships and the potential for growth and change.
