God, Envy is just a great example of what's wrong with Scott. He's not even hung up with her because she broke his heart, he's hung up on her because she's the one girl he didn't get tired of before he dropped her like an out-of-style t-shirt, and God forbid he be in any state of emotional vulnerability like the bad end of a fucking breakup like any of the girls he dated who happened to commit the cardinal sin of becoming familiar.

The craziest shit is that Envy broke up with him yet she spends so much time as though SHE got dumped. If Scott were anything resembling a healthy person, he might notice that despite ostensibly being in a relationship, she is clearly hung up on him, fucking writing a song about him, dedicating time and effort to show him just how much she has supposedly moved on to fame, success and love all without him. Because, yeaaah, when you fully move on after a breakup, making sure your ex knows is at the top of the to do list. But again, Scott is so fucking self centered he can't actually focus on other people long enough to notice this shit even when its to his benefit.

I dont remeber if the movie went into detail,but envy wasn't the one who cheated on scott but rather the other way around(heavily implied).Envy was the one who broke it off because scott was a drunk asshole,and basically a terrible boyfriend.The whole "flashback" in the comic is actually misremembered by scott along with other events.

In both mediums envy didn't meet todd till long after their break up,and todd was the one cheating in their relationship as well(again,dont remember if movie goes into detail on this outside their brief fight).

not sure if this was implied to be a sequel or a reboot, but much as I love this film, I'd like to see a reboot TV series.
The last installments of the source material were not even done yet when they were doing this film-only some notes, and Scott is less..."timely michael cera/jesse eisenberg" type and way more of a looser as a person when the comics begin, like legit super looser.
With all the material that's there we could get through five episodes without seeing Romona Flowers.
There could be 2-3 seasons before he basically gets his "happy ending" and this kind of music (/indie/underground/etc has also had a big resurgence in popularity so now would be the time to strike).

I really like the shot at 2:23 when Envy looks at Scott, seemingly aroused, as he's charging at Todd. It's as if Scott's passion and determination in that moment actually impressed Envy, reminding her, if only for a second, of the feelings they once shared. It's such a small moment that wasn't even included in the movie, but I still like it, although I might also read into it too much.

I saw this when it was new. Years later I see it as a fascinating little passion project that stands almost alone in a little sub-genre.
I really thought at the time that the comic-enhanced graphics, and textual explanations would be picked up widely. So cool/fun.
