Blossom
Scott T. Appel Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Maybe one day, we won't feel so alone
And maybe one day, the blossoms won't have to fall
Oh you light up my lonely soul
But would you lay down with me in my hole?

Well if I'm waiting for a sign
And you're waiting for it all to fit
We'll end up caught by the tide
And though our paths not straight
I know if you could come my way
I know we'll this out
But if you pull back from me
I'll tell ya, I'll be okay
I'll land up on my feet
But if you lean into this
I'll tell ya, what comes from there
Could be so much more than a kiss
Cuz baby girl, you've knocked me over
And split me open
We might not make it
But oh here's hoping
I'll do my best to keep a smile on that face
Oh baby girl, let's share a piece of this world
Before I run down south to warm my curls
I might not be always
But I sure am here today
And I know that it's not perfect
That it might not last
But you make my days better and I want to take a chance
But I get it if you're not on board
Cuz I'm a motherfucking mess
But I'm so damn grateful for the time we spent together
Thought I was long gone
But you pulled me back to center
And if you'd just stay tonight
I know we'd be alright

And I know that you know
The softest blossom's enough
It don't gotta be rare to be love

And I know that you know

The softest blossom's enough
It don't gotta be rare to be love

Overall Meaning

The song "Blossom" by Scott T. Appel speaks about hope, love, and gratitude for someone who has come into his life and made it better. The first verse talks about a hope for a day when they won't feel alone and the blossoms won't have to fall. The blossoms can represent new beginnings or fresh starts, and it seems like the singer wants to hold on to this hopeful feeling with this person. The singer asks the other person if they will lay down with him in his hole, which refers to a place of darkness, fear, or struggle that he might have.

The second verse speaks about waiting for a sign or waiting for everything to fit perfectly, but realizing that they may get caught up in the tide if they don't take a chance. The singer acknowledges that their paths may not be straight, but if they could come together, they could work things out. The singer also acknowledges that if the other person chooses to pull back, he'll be okay, but if they lean in, something special could come from it. He also tells the other person that they've knocked him over and split him open, which suggests that he's vulnerable and has opened himself up to her.

The last part of the song speaks about the softest blossom being enough and that it doesn't have to be rare to be loved. It seems to reflect on the idea that love doesn't need to be grand or extravagant to be meaningful. It can be small or soft, yet still be valuable and worth holding onto. The singer seems to be grateful for this person and wants to share a piece of the world with her before he has to leave for a while.

This music tape was sent to the late Scott Appel by Nick’s Parents - who both admired Scott’s treatment of Nick’s songs and material, in the hope that maybe he could “do something with the music.
Nothing really came of the idea.. and Scott simply hung on to the tape until the point when he and I became friends - sharing an appreciation for Nick and his music.
I do know that he asked/received permission of Molly before he’s sent me the tape - which is why I have no guilt about sharing the music.
It is not and never has been for sale, in any format.
The folks who run the “official” Nick Drake FB pages are really quite possessive and don’t like Nick’s legacy being shared in such unofficial manners…
So grab it while ya can.
It was recorded, for the most part by Nick, in Nick’s bedroom

Hi Pedro I am Scott’s Godson Shawn. I wanted to reach out and say thank you for sharing my Uncle’s music. He has been an inspiration to me my whole life and I’m happy people have discovered his work on here and enjoy it.

@whispered-wings

Scott's my cousin! Grew up listening to my dad talk about him but he passed when I was still very young, always nice to go back and listen to his music

Scottie.....smiling.... remembering....you....Lincoln Park after Dark....your 12 string guitar....and your Pure Loving Heart!

@davidshur3882

I've had this since 1988. Still playing it. Wonderful music.

@teptime

An unduly sidestepped work, and a touchingly sincere tribute. Appel knows and shares Drake's sensitive ideations, and limns them judiciously.

@nightspore73

Thank you for posting the full album, Pedro. This is priceless.

@andycarpenter3650

Have only just discovered this album and Scotts work. Its ironic to discover him, as was the case with Nick Drake, long after he left this mortal realm but, as did Nick, he left us something amazing and timeless.

@markfogarty1954

it has been too long since I heard Scott's voice and guitar! I was able to be at some of the sessions for this record and it was a great season.
