Originally coming to fame in the mid-1960s singing orchestral pop ballads as the frontman of The Walker Brothers, Walker went on to a solo career balancing a light entertainment/MOR ballad approach with increasing artistic innovations in arrangement and writing. Despite a series of acclaimed albums, a disastrous drop in sales forced him back into straight Middle of the road recordings with little of his own artistic input. This in turn eventually led to a Walker Brothers reunion in the mid-1970s (although the latter eventually moved, by mutual consent, into more avant-garde areas).
From the mid-1980s, Walker revived his solo career while drastically reinventing his artistic and compositional methods, via a series of acclaimed and vividly avant-garde albums. These combined his iconic voice with an unsettling avant-garde approach which owed more to modernist and post-modernist classical composition than to his pop singer past. This change in approach has been compared to "Andy Williams reinventing himself as Stockhausen".
Walker has been a continuing influence on other artists, in particular The Last Shadow Puppets, Marc Almond, Goldfrapp, Douglas Pearce of the band Death in June, Billy MacKenzie of The Associates, David Sylvian, Julian Cope, Antony Hegarty, Thom Yorke, Steven Wilson, David Bowie, Leonard Cohen, Trey Spruance, Perry Blake, Radiohead, Noah Lennox, Mikael Åkerfeldt, and the Divine Comedy/Neil Hannon.
Walker continued to release solo material until his death, and was signed to 4AD Records. As a record producer or guest performer he worked with a number of artists including Pulp, Ute Lemper, Bat For Lashes and Sunn O))).
First Love Never Dies
Scott Walker Lyrics

So long since I've kissed you
How I love to look into your eyes
Yes I still dream about you
My world is lost without you
For you are my first love, and
First love never ever dies
Whenever I feel lonely
I'm thinking of you only
One last kiss and then we said goodbye
The love I left behind me
Comes back to remind me
That you were my first love, and
First love never ever dies
The love I left behind me
Comes back to remind me
That you were my first love, and
First love never ever dies
And if you're thinking of me
And you find that you still love me
There's no use to go on living lies
Let's hurry to each other
For there could be no other
Yes, you were my first love, and
First love never ever dies
First love never ever dies
In Scott Walker's song "First Love Never Dies," the lyrics express the lingering feelings and emotions that come with first love. The first verse reveals how the singer still thinks about their past love, missing the feeling of being close to them and gazing into their eyes. The chorus brings up the idea that first love never truly dies, and even though they may have parted ways, the love and memories remain. The second verse highlights the loneliness and longing that the singer experiences, constantly thinking of their past love and realizing the impact that person had on their life.
Throughout the song, there is a sense of regretful nostalgia, the acknowledgment that something important was lost and a desire to rekindle that flame. The lyrics also suggest that if the past love still feels the same, they should come together again, as there could be no other. The song's repetitive nature emphasizes the idea that first love has a lasting effect on the individual and their life, as the love they left behind always comes back to remind them.
Overall, the lyrics in "First Love Never Dies" are a reflection of the powerful emotions that come with experiencing first love. It is a memory that never fades, one that can bring about feelings of happiness, sadness, and longing all at once.

A boy who fell in love with me more than 40yrs ago found me on fb on the other side of the world when he was terminally ill. Against all odds he survived nearly a year during which time our love was rekindled. He posted this for me, just before he died. I play it every day.

This song goes out to Leslie who was my first love at the somewhat tender age of 18 and that love has never died. 50 years later at the age of 68 that love continues to be embedded within me and always will be.
