Imaginary Problems
Screaming Mechanical Brain Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
A self-perpetuating lie, that promises discipline
For those who step out of line
And act the slightest bit human
Big top illusions and magic
Are the cornerstone of everything
That's sacred and traditional
We've got front row tickets
Filth, sleaze, degradation
(it's all part of your imagination)
Fear of an unsafe nation
(it's all part of your imagination)
Woah, it's all part of your imagination
Mental fucking masturbation
Keep us jumping at shadows
And chasing illusions
While we follow the impossible
Dreams are meant to be shattered
Broken and tattered and unattainable
Regret, guilty pleasures
Never say never
Forever and ever we burn
In this living hell
Born in the womb of taciturn
Filth, sleaze, degradation
(it's all part of your imagination)
Fear of an unsafe nation
(it's all part of your imagination)
Woah, it's all part of your imagination
Mental fucking masturbation
True obstacles forgotten, imaginary problems
True obstacles forgotten, imaginary problems
Filth, sleaze, degradation
(it's all part of your imagination)
Fear of an unsafe nation
(it's all part of your imagination)
Woah, it's all part of your imagination
Mental fucking masturbation
We live under the assumption
That the world could be obliterated
By perversion, it's illusion
It's all part of your imagination
The lyrics to Screaming Mechanical Brain's song Imaginary Problems are a scathing critique of the self-imposed limitations we put on ourselves as a society. The first verse describes how we create a false sense of discipline for anyone who strays from the accepted norm of behavior, using the allure of illusions and magic to maintain a façade of tradition and sanctity. The chorus then accuses society of engaging in mental self-gratification, using imaginary fears to keep us constantly chasing shadows and unreachable dreams. In the second verse, the lyrics suggest that we cling to our self-imposed limitations out of fear, rather than facing true obstacles and challenges. The song's central theme seems to be that we lock ourselves into imaginary problems because they are easier to solve than real ones.
The song's lyrics are full of strong language and metaphors that elevate its message. The line "born in the womb of taciturn" is particularly powerful - taciturn meaning uncommunicative or silent - suggesting that our society's self-imposed limitations are a product of our unwillingness to communicate or confront hard truths. The chorus's repeated line "it's all part of your imagination" reinforces the idea that we create our own problems out of thin air. Overall, the lyrics suggest that we have the power to break free from these imaginary limitations and face the real obstacles that lie ahead.
