Salt The Earth
Screaming Mechanical Brain Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You people say that I gave you something to belong to
Now you claim it's gone and it's all my fault
Nothing stays the same; even you have changed
Don't look at me like I let you down
I never asked to be your saint
Salt the fucking earth
Salt the fucking...
Salt the fucking earth
Salt the fucking...
Hindsight is blind and delusional
I'll slap those rose-colored glasses right off your skull
Time to move along, leave the past for dead
Either join us or rot in retrospect
You think I feel regret for changing?
Not once you see what I'm becoming
I never sold my soul to make a dollar
(I never sold my soul)
But I spent every dollar I had to make a point
That no one bought
All I ever really accomplished was showing you a good time
Before you die
But the good times are over
Consider this your kiss goodnight
Set fire to your memories
Forget my name and walk away
(may I help you?)
In "Salt The Earth," Screaming Mechanical Brain explores the theme of betrayal and the human tendency to place blame on others for their own shortcomings. The lyrics suggest that the singer, who had previously provided a sense of belonging to those around them, is now being accused of letting them down. However, the singer denies this claim and asserts that nothing stays the same, implying that change is inevitable and that people should not rely on others to provide them with a stable sense of identity. The line "forget my name and walk away" suggests that the singer is ready to move on and leave those who are unwilling to see the truth behind their actions behind.
The chorus urges the listener to "salt the fucking earth," which is a phrase that refers to the practice of spreading salt on land to make it uninhabitable. Metaphorically, this means that the singer wants to destroy everything associated with their past and start anew. The line "hindsight is blind and delusional" reinforces the idea that clinging to the past is pointless and that moving forward is the only way to achieve growth.
Overall, "Salt The Earth" is a powerful song about taking responsibility for one's own life and not relying on others for a sense of self-worth. It suggests that change can be painful but ultimately necessary, and that it is up to each individual to take control of their own destiny.

You guys are getting better with every release and it's amazing to see how far you've come in such a short amount of time. Keep changing. Keep experimenting. Keep it up.

You guys have come such a long way from "Fun With Poop" and I must say. its been exciting to see how you guys grow as a band, and how the music evolves, I appreciate a band who can progress into what they truly want, without trying to make a cd based on their latest hit. Its refreshing, and I can only hope to see you guys live again. Keep rockin the electronic fuck out of our skulls guys. Thank you.

Not Just Say Yes or the former members. You hit the nail with the stylistic changes though. I believe that living in the past with your life, or music, or whatever is no way to live. I prefer blasting through life in a rocket powered death mobile. We are an evolving beast, and we are not sorry.

It's like Nine Inch Nails did a bunch of amphetamines.

is this a backlash against those who criticized you for changing your style and/or creating the Just Say YES! music project? it is obvious that you have changed John, the band changed in general without Cass and Bryan... i guess this song is a way of saying "fuck you, the past is dead, we are moving forward now"?

The video is not the point. Each song will have an identical lyric vid, so get ready for 10 more of these. We are putting these all on youtube because A. it's what people look everything up on and B. we want people to get the lyrics down.
