The End...Tis Rising In Squares
Screaming Mechanical Brain Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And you find that the pieces don't match up?
You will see as they grow up tall
The higher you go the farther you fall
TETRIS!
Why do we feel the overpowering need to
Seems to me we'll continue the struggle
In this way eternally
When you wake from the American dream
And find you no longer fit the mold
Suddenly you're dead to the world
And you've been left out in the cold
When you think you've won
You will disappear
And when you are wrong
You will be dead and gone
In "The End...Tis Rising In Squares" by Screaming Mechanical Brain, the lyrics focus on the concept of building walls to protect oneself, only to find that the pieces don't fit together. This could be interpreted in a physical or emotional sense, as walls can be metaphorical barriers we put up to protect ourselves from the outside world. As the walls grow higher, the fall becomes more catastrophic, and the reference to Tetris emphasizes this idea of building and falling apart.
The song also touches on the struggle of fighting incongruities and the eternal nature of this struggle. The American dream is mentioned, highlighting the idea of societal expectations and fitting into a certain mold. When someone no longer fits this mold, they are left out in the cold, which can be seen as a metaphor for feeling isolated and alone. The lyrics suggest that even in victory, we can still disappear and be gone, and wrong decisions can be fatal.
Overall, the song suggests that we build up walls to protect ourselves, but in doing so, we may isolate ourselves and create further struggles. Society has expectations and molds that we may not always fit into, and the struggle to conform can be a never-ending battle.

um... top of my head, i think they were Screaming Monkey Boner up until 2003? John Wheeler wanted to take the band into a little more serious direction then what they started as on Fun With Poop, so around Process of Assimilation he started writing lyrics that were a bit more political in theme and started to transition to Screaming Mechanical Brain.
by There Is No God In Space, both the political and anti-religious lyrics pretty much completely took over, i think in 2006? then around 2009 i think was when In Defiance of Science came out, which was the last album to feature drummer Bryan Pierson (i'm probably spelling his last name wrong btw).
i briefly started shit with John about Bryan when around 2012 THE POLICY OF UNILATERAL HATE was released and i kind of thought it was contrived and overall not as good as previous albums, and i blamed it partially on Bryan being fired, and John went off on me on Facebook, lol...
"you don't like the album, cool, i don't give a fuck, but don't blame it on us firing Bryan. we struggled to make this album for the last 3 years, and Bryan couldn't do the things we needed him to anymore. me and Jesse McInturff were always the core writers of the band, not Bryan"
but yeah, the band broke up around 2013, John does random projects now, plays bass for Blue Felix sometimes, shoots music videos, and so on, and i think Jesse McInturff has a band called VVives now and i heard he was also doing something with Alex from Psychostick.
