1) Screaming Trees was an American rock band formed in Ellensburg, Washington in 1985 by vocalist Mark Lanegan, guitarist Gary Lee Conner, bass player Van Conner and drummer Mark Pickerel. Pickerel had been replaced by Barrett Martin by the time the band reached its most successful period. Although widely associated with grunge, the band's sound incorporated hard rock and psychedelic elements. During Screaming Trees' existence the band released seven studio albums, five EPs, and three compilations.
Screaming Trees is known as one of the pioneers of proto-grunge along with the Melvins, Mudhoney, U-Men, Skin Yard, Green River, and Malfunkshun. Screaming Trees rose to fame as part of the grunge movement of the early 1990s, along with bands such as Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, and Soundgarden and was one of the most successful underground music acts of the 1990s. The band achieved one top ten single on the Modern Rock Tracks charts. Screaming Trees were plagued by extended inactivity due to their problems with making a follow up to Dust. This led to their official breakup in 2000.

Down where no one can see
Your eyes in the moonlight turn white to blue
Don't think I really want to know where you've been
Just want your grip tight around my skin
I said ivy on the wall
I know way that you creep and crawl
There's a dark-haired girl on a mattress
And there's a room suspended in the air
Echoes screaming through my empty soul
And when it melts in my mouth
Well then I just don't know
Ivy on the wall
I know the way that you creep and crawl
I said ivy on the wall
And in your eyes I can see it all
Wake up in the morning, it's another time
Blood red rain on the window pane
Oh, I've got to let you go
But you know I don't believe it
They tell me it's all over
Ivy on the wall
I know by the way that you creep and crawl
I said ivy on the wall
And in your eyes I can see it all
Ivy on the wall
Ivy on the wall
Ivy on the wall
Ivy
The song "Ivy" by Screaming Trees is a haunting and enigmatic piece that hints at a narrator's obsession with a mysterious woman who exudes danger and risk. The lyrics suggest that he is aware of her dark past and that he may have fallen into her web of intrigue, unable to resist her allure. The central image of the ivy on the wall is a metaphor for this woman's seductive power, as she creeps and crawls like the ivy, slowly but surely overtaking and engulfing everything in her path.
The singer's fascination with the woman is underscored by the eerie and surreal imagery in the song, such as the dark-haired girl on a mattress in a room suspended in the air, and the blood red rain on the window pane. These images suggest a dreamlike quality, perhaps indicating that the singer's obsession with the woman is taking place at an unconscious level. Despite his awareness of the danger she poses, he is unable to resist her pull, as he longs to feel her grip tight around his skin.
Overall, "Ivy" is a powerful and evocative song that explores themes of obsession, danger, and desire. The lyrics are open to interpretation and invite the listener to imagine the story behind them, making it a haunting and memorable piece of music.
