1) Screaming Trees was an American rock band formed in Ellensburg, Washington in 1985 by vocalist Mark Lanegan, guitarist Gary Lee Conner, bass player Van Conner and drummer Mark Pickerel. Pickerel had been replaced by Barrett Martin by the time the band reached its most successful period. Although widely associated with grunge, the band's sound incorporated hard rock and psychedelic elements. During Screaming Trees' existence the band released seven studio albums, five EPs, and three compilations.
Screaming Trees is known as one of the pioneers of proto-grunge along with the Melvins, Mudhoney, U-Men, Skin Yard, Green River, and Malfunkshun. Screaming Trees rose to fame as part of the grunge movement of the early 1990s, along with bands such as Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, and Soundgarden and was one of the most successful underground music acts of the 1990s. The band achieved one top ten single on the Modern Rock Tracks charts. Screaming Trees were plagued by extended inactivity due to their problems with making a follow up to Dust. This led to their official breakup in 2000.

Why don't you stay, remember what you said
Ten thousand miles and everyone's mistaken
Look where you've been
Where every woman's wasted
All the while you've been sleeping
Drifting on a wind never blown
Wondering how, when no one really knows
Don't speak a word of all that you've been saving
If there isn't time then you should let it go
Into the fire and bring back all you've taken
Once more alone you'll never let it show
All the while you've been sleeping
Drifting on a wind never blown
Tomorrow you'll wake up aching
Wondering how, when no one really knows
Now what have I done wrong
Can't you tell me what have I done wrong
Baby tell me what have I done wrong
Don't walk away, you haven't yet awakened
Why don't you stay, remember what you said
Ten thousand miles, and everyone's mistaken
Look where you've been
Where every woman's wasted
All the while you've been sleeping
Drifting on a wind never blown
Tomorrow you'll wake up aching
Wondering how, when no one really knows
Now what have I done wrong
Can't you tell me what have I done wrong
Baby tell me what have I done wrong
Tell me, tell me, tell me, tell me now
The lyrics to Screaming Trees's song No One Knows depicts someone who is going through life in a daze, sleeping through their days without really living. The repetition of the phrase "All the while you've been sleeping" emphasizes this idea that the person is not really present in their own life, unable to fully engage with the world around them. The chorus repeats the line "Tomorrow you'll wake up aching, wondering how, when no one really knows," indicating a sense of disappointment and confusion about their own life and purpose.
The verse "Don't speak a word of all that you've been saving" suggests that the person has been hiding their true thoughts and feelings from others, perhaps out of fear or a lack of confidence. But the following line "If there isn't time, then you should let it go" encourages them to confront those feelings and not let them be a burden. The lines "Into the fire and bring back all you've taken, once more alone you'll never let it show" speak to the idea of transformation and the potential to let go of past mistakes and take ownership of one's life.
The final verse repeats the opening lines, suggesting that the person is still stuck in this cycle of sleepwalking through their life, and the repeated plea of "What have I done wrong?" indicates a sense of frustration and desperation to break free from this stagnant state.
Overall, the song is a poignant reflection on the struggle to connect with oneself and the world around us, and the need to wake up and take control of our lives before it's too late.

I remember listening to Sweet Oblivion with my bro back in the late 90’s and this song came on, and we were both completely silent listening to it, when it ended my bro simply said ‘ that’s the best song I’ve ever heard’. And to this day I find it hard to disagree. RIP Mark, you are one of the greats.
