The song "Passion" by Screeching Weasel deals with the theme of authenticity and living in a world that often prioritizes conformity over passion and individuality. In the lyrics, the singer expresses frustration with people who always try to look cool and do what society expects of them, rather than following their own desires and pursuing their dreams. He wants to live life on his own terms, with passion and emotion, even if it means breaking the rules.
The lyrics suggest that the singer sees himself as part of the problem, rather than blaming external forces like the government or record labels. He realizes that he has been holding himself back by trying to conform to social norms, and wants to break free and be true to himself. This message of self-awareness and personal responsibility is a recurring theme in Screeching Weasel's music.
Overall, the song encourages listeners to embrace their passions and take action to pursue their goals, even if it means being unconventional or going against the norm. It's a rallying cry for nonconformity and individuality, an anthem for anyone who has ever felt stifled by societal expectations.
