Yep, a seal. I used to fish in the Gulf in my kayak until one day I caught a 5 foot sharpnose, which caused me to flip my kayak. If you've ever tried getting back in a kayak while a quarter mile or more from shore, you'll know how difficult it can be. That was my last salt water fishing adventure from a kayak.

It's a seal. The profile/outline of the head is the giveaway. They're very curious when they see something new in their area, especially where people are concerned. I used to dive this one spot in Puget Sound regularly, and there was a seal in the area that had a fascination with divers. It would break the surface and watch divers getting their gear on then "disappear" when we entered the water. Drifting along the undersea shelf looking for wolf eels and octopi, the seal would swim around us for several minutes checking us out and doing playful barrel rolls past us. It was amazing to watch something that large be so graceful and fast in the water.

I remember kayaking with my mom in the sound, we were followed by the scariest looking seal I've ever seen in my life. He was HUGE, covered in wounds and scars, and the whites of his bulging eyes were bloodshot. He kept getting so close that we thought he was going to try tipping us.

The Ores are very easy to put together, the pump worked beautifully. the seats are a bit hard to sit in after a while (I recommend sitting on the floor). after reading the reviews I was very scared it'd get a hole in it, the material is very strong and durable. The Air valve may need a small Phillips head screwdriver to adjust, other than that, it's well worth the money!(update)I've gone Kayaking in 3 Lakes and 2 rivers totaling about 40 miles. the kayak had two holes and they patched easily and no other problems can't wait for kayaking season this year!

I saw a sea turtle do that while we were deep sea fishing. Quite startling at first! It almost looked like a diver. It kept popping up to take a look at us, then swam off. It looked exactly like that.

Search for the video of the kayakers, who encountered whales close to the coast. They decided to paddle towards them, and then a whale slowly came up below the woman and lifted her and her little kayak up on its back.
Nobody got harmed, but this would have freaked me out. One tail smack and you're history. But apparently that whale was just playing with the kayak and put her back down after a while.

Coming from Scotland where we have a lot of seals, I would say it is a "grey seal", seen them many times before "spy hopping", The young ones even come right up to you to have a closer look out of pure curiosity. And if you use their wailing call to communicate with them, the adults will follow you all the way along the beach in the water. They act so much like dogs do.

It always freaks me out when people go out on the ocean on a kayak, especially fishing. I’ve got a 14’ row boat with motor and even an 18” freshwater bass can haul that thing along, Nantucket Sleigh Ride style...I cannot imagine hooking some big ocean fish from a tiny kayak, not to mention the fact that lots of ocean dwellers are big enough to capsize, bite, and thrash me off it. Kayakers are CRAZY and have no self preservation instincts, LOL! 😱😬

Depending on how close to shore, what time of year, and where you were, it could've just been a sea turtle coming up for air. Thats definitely what it looked like to me, the way it shot up & back down, & the size too. Didn't really look wide enough to be a fin, & it stayed in 1 place before going down.

Your floating bait pretty much, there was a guy who had to fight off a shark on a kayak, it wasn't a huge shark but enough to cause problems, he had to paddle and fend off the shark while making his way back, I would never take a kayak out there lol

It’s a North Atlantic grey seal, they always seem to pop up when you’re fishing, they are curious creatures. They know you are fishing, see them all the time when fishing at St. David’s West Wales.

I remember walking along a beach in norcal and I noticed a seal ducking its head every time I looked behind me. They can be a problem because they do like stealing salmon from kayak fishermen which they can cause you to flip over by grabbing your fish net.

I’ve had that happen in the Pacific Powell River. The seals would follow us there, as soon as you get one online they come and take it, it’s easier for them to catch that way. People there often carry rifles in their boat and shoot them. I thought the same thing, horrible. But when you fish all night and they take most of the fish, you understand the frustration

See now THIS looks 100% authentic: HD quality video, completely realistic situation and the creature isn't too far and blurry nor too close and out of focus. Furthermore, you can tell from it's distance to the Kayak and the horizon that it is BIG even though it's difficult to tell exactly what it is. Fantastic catch.

Been surfing for 40+ years, and I used to fish from my kayak. From what I could see, that looks like typical pinniped or porpoise behavior. From juveniles to full-grown Elephant Seals, I've seen pinnipeds pop up like that to get a good sighting of you and what you're doing. As a kayak fisherman, I've seen that approach many, many times--it occurs right before they steal what's on the end of your line.

There are so many things in the ocean that we may not have any clue about. We have left the planet and searched outer space but have found it understandably difficult to know the cracks and craters of our own ocean floor. We are still finding new things on a daily basis. It looked a bit like a fin but then went down different than I would expect our usual finned creatures to move.

It's likely a Mola Mola. Many years ago I came across the same appearing/disappearing dark triangle in my sea kayak off Gloucester, Mass. Many saw it and were petrified at first, thinking it was a great white shark, but I am also a diver and sharks don't behave like that. I slowly slowly paddled up along side of it, and it was as big as my 17 foot kayak! It rolled on its side and looked at me with a huge eye, every bit as curious as I was. I was so surprised to be that close to a Mola Mola that I lost my sunglasses. A very nice memory.

Where was that at? I think it might be a sea lion. I've seen something that looks just like that popping out of the water lots of times. It gets closer, and closer because it's very nosy. In my experience it's always a curious (or territorial) sea lion.

What ever protruding above the water line - seemed to be in two parts? Something like this happened to a group of us (about 4) surfers, while surfing south of Santa Cruz, CA. in the 60's. Looked like the fin of a shark, but remained in a place like this, then after a while it started circling us in big sweeps - then closing the circle more and more in smaller sweeps. I mean the fin was about 2 feet out of the water. Well, we started to freak out since with a big fin like that it could be a big shark. We started paddling towards the beach. That's when it broke its circling movement and headed straight after us. We paddled faster and faster with our hearts up in our mouths - in desperation to get away from this creature. We arrive at the beach, got out quickly snatched up our boards, and jogged up towards the cliffs. The creature came right up to shore! It waddled out and started barking at us in a very loud tone - it was "Laughing at us"!! It was a very large Sea Lion - and he sure had his fun for the day. There's a big Sea Lion that likes to play south of the Oceanside Pier in Southern California too with the Surfers. I mean this guy is like 300-400 lbs. so he could do some mayhem to you if he wanted - but never heard of damaging anyone, but their ego as he pranks with you.

It moves pretty fast and covers distance with ease, I think. It could be an eel like creature, maybe a snake like body. But not a known creature. It doesn't look like a head popping up because you would expect something like a plesiosaur head. It looks like a snorkel or a periscope from a submarine. When it pops up, it will stick up higher to look over a wave crest. That means you are its target. I guess you survived this. Even if you were in a yacht, I don't think it's any safer. I may wait till night to board your boat, or sneak up from behind and grab and take you under. This may explain how people go missing, and empty yachts found. I would not canoe anymore. Same things are happening in our forests.

I served in the US Navy over 30 years ago, I recall during the night while underway, I use to see all kinds of strange creatures that glowed in the dark moving about at various different speeds. These creatures glowed different colors too, and this was in the waters in the Caribbean not far from Puerto Rico.

It was the bottom rudder of a sea monster's boat, as he was fishing for people. The underwater Youtube is now questioning what that green kayak was on their version of this sighting.... that video has 750K views. Silly sea monsters will believe anything.

I spent 6 years in the US Coast Guard primarily 11th District (US west coast). What you saw was a new Chinese ocean going spy drone made specifically to monitor our offshore kayak fisherman. They are made to look exactly like seals. Smart SOB's those Chinese.

Seal or duck coming up after a dive.

I work at sea and i notice there
is a bit of a long swell- this must be a good bit away from land- like mile or two at least id think, that is quite scary to me seeing a kayak out there. Where i work we have a deck low down to the sea and im always amazed when i look out how big swells can be even in calm weather- higher up its hard to get an idea of size . They always much bigger further out.

Some times, logs that are about to go to the deep 6, are boyant enough to keep bobbing up, and diving again, staying submerged for a time, then popping up again, like a sneeky sub. During war time, the sub chasers had a fit with this.

I was in the Coast Guard and am quite sure that was a seal. Don’t recommend kayaking by yourself though…dealt with a case of a drowning when the body washed up on shore two weeks later. Kayak apparently flipped after fog rolled in and he was by himself visiting for business and to see family.

I'd say it was a seal or sea lion. It probably just wanted to get a better more detailed look at something it thought unusual. The fisherman in the kayak. So it just poked its head through the surface to get a better look while maintaining a safe distance. That's it looks like to me.
