The name Seafret, as well as being a pun on the guitar fret board, is also a local term for the two boys; it applies to the rolling mists that come in off the North Sea during summer. Now living in London, the sea is what the duo miss the most.
First meeting at an open mic night around 2011, the two had distinctly different levels of experience. Though a few years younger, Harry Draper was an experienced local musician; Jack Sedman, meanwhile, had quite literally only just discovered his voice.
Seafret released their debut EP 'Give Me Something' on Sweet Jane Recordings on September 21st 2014. The ‘Give Me Something’ EP features five tracks, ‘Give Me Something’, ‘Explosion’, ‘Play With Guns’, ‘Did We Miss The Morning’ and an acoustic version of ‘Give Me Something’ that bookends the EP.

Angel of Small Death and the Codeine Scene
Seafret Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Toying somewhere between love and abuse
Calling to join them the wretched and joyful
Shaking the wings of their terrible youths
Freshly dissolved in some frozen devotion
No more alone or myself could I be
Looks like a strain to the arms it were open
No shortage of sordid, no protest from me
With her sweetened breath, and her tongue so mean
She's the angel of small death and the codeine scene
With her straw-blonde hair, her arms hard and lean
She's the angel of small death and the codeine scene
Feeling more human and hooked on her flesh I
Lay my heart down with the rest at her feet
Fresh from the fields, all feeder and fertile
Bloody and raw, but I swear that it's sweet
With her sweetened breath, and her tongue so mean
She's the angel of small death and the codeine scene
With her straw-blonde hair, her arms hard and lean
She's the angel of small death and the codeine scene
And lease this confusion, I'll wander the concrete
Wonder if better now having survived
Jarring of judgement and reasons defeat
The sweet heat of her breath in my mouth I'm alive
With her sweetened breath, and her tongue so mean
She's the angel of small death and the codeine scene
With her straw-blonde hair, her arms hard and lean
She's the angel of small death and the codeine scene
With her sweetened breath, and her tongue so mean
She's the angel of small death and the codeine scene
With her straw-blonde hair, her arms hard and lean
She's the angel of small death and the codeine scene
Seafret's "Angel of Small Death and the Codeine Scene" is a beautifully crafted song that evokes a sense of longing and addiction. The lyrics tell the story of the singer's relationship with a woman who is both an angel of death and a muse to him. He watches his friends engage in love and abuse, and he too is drawn into her mysterious allure. The woman is the "angel of small death and the codeine scene," and the singer is hooked on her flesh.
The song's lyrics describe the singer's feeling of being more alive and human, thanks to the woman's sweet breath and mean tongue. He lays his heart down at her feet, feeling feeder and fertile, despite being bloody and raw. He is confused but feels alive, and he wanders the concrete, wondering if he is better off having survived.
The song is a hauntingly beautiful ballad that captures the essence of addiction and desire. It speaks to the way we can be drawn to dangerous things and how our survival is often tied to the emotional and physical connections we make with others.
