Mirror
Sean C. Johnson Lyrics

I remember looking back in the rearview mirror
You were kneeling in the middle of your road
Your head in your hands
You were crying and screaming
For me
I remember looking back in the rearview mirror
I remember looking back in the rearview mirror
To run to you, dear
But I knew at the time you'd later
Run from me, dear
I remember looking back in the rearview mirror
I remember looking back in the rearview mirror
When I look back at everything
All that has passed
All the things that we go through
The past isn't past
And in hindsight I see that
The choices we make
All the heartache and sadness and
All our mistakes
It's all part of you
Every day
The lyrics of Sean C. Johnson's "Mirror" explore the idea of reflection and hindsight, particularly in the context of relationships. The singer recalls a moment where they saw their significant other in the rearview mirror, kneeling in the road and crying out for them. While they wanted to turn back and be there for them, they also knew that the relationship was not healthy and that they needed to let go. The singer goes on to reflect on the past, recognizing that all the heartache, sadness, and mistakes are a part of them and that they continue to affect them every day.
The lyrics are particularly poignant because they capture the conflicting emotions that often arise when we reflect on past relationships. The singer wants to be there for their partner and support them, but they also know that the relationship was not good for either of them. This tension is further reinforced by the repetition of the line "I remember looking back in the rearview mirror" - the singer can't help but look back, but they also know that they need to move on.
One of the interesting aspects of the song is the way that it combines different musical genres. The song starts off with acoustic guitar and piano, but then transitions into a more soulful, R&B sound. This reflects the way that the lyrics themselves move between different emotional registers - from regret and heartache to resilience and acceptance.

And he said mouth like my fam in DC, mouf, but it's an accent, not cussing. If you knew his ministry, this wouldn't even be a question...but it's all good. Ask and you shall receive.

God's definition of sin is difficult to understand at times, I agree, sin is sin. All sin stink in the nostrils of God. Great song.
