Randy Dandy Oh
Sean Dagher Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Now you're ready to sail for the Horn,
Weigh hey, roll and go!
Our boots and our clothes, boys, are all in the pawn,
To be rollicking Randy Dandy-O!
Heave a pawl, O heave away!
Weigh hey, roll and go!
The anchor's on board and the cable's all stored,
To be rollicking Randy Dandy-O!
Soon we'll be warping her out through the locks,
Weigh hey, roll and go!
Where the pretty young girls all come down in their frocks
To be rollicking Randy Dandy-O!
Heave a pawl, O heave away!
Weigh hey, roll and go!
The anchor's on board and the cable's all stored,
To be rollicking Randy Dandy-O!
Come breast the bars, bullies, heave her away,
Weigh hey, roll and go!
Soon well be rolling her down through the Bay,
To be rollicking randy dandy-O!
Heave a pawl, O heave away!
Weigh hey, roll and go!

The anchor's on board and the cable's all stored,
To be rollicking Randy Dandy-O!

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Sean Dagher's song "Randy Dandy Oh" are a celebration of the joys of sailing and the excitement of setting out to sea. The verses speak of sailors preparing to set sail: their boots and clothes have been pawned to pay for the journey, the anchor is on board, and they are about to warp out through the locks. The chorus encourages the sailors to heave and weigh, to breast the bars and heave her away, and to be "rollicking Randy Dandy-O." This phrase is not clearly defined within the lyrics themselves, but it seems to refer to the experience of being on board a ship, and the sense of freedom and adventure that comes with it.

Now this ones a Sean Dagher classic

@jakobsworkshop9198

I have heard this shanty so many many times and in so many different versions. I can't for the life of me hear this in my head with a voice different that yours. The Black Flag version, the "Sea Songs & Shanties" version with La Nef, now this. Your versions of this tune are levels above any other. Keep up the phenomenal work, much love!

@Alliepirate

I absolutely agree with this i love hearing a lot of other versions but for me nothing tops sean Daghers versions of these shanties

@SeanDagher

You are both very kind. I also like hearing different versions.

@rodnyc.8876

@Sean Dagher That's right my friend, your voice is one of a kind.

@officerlarry2686

This might be one he did do,he has sang for some of black flags shanties. Just not sure which ones are his.

@jcdenton7564

I wish I had someone to sing this shanty with.

@SeanDagher

Man, yes. A crew to sing with is a great luxury.

@dragonwithamonocle

This and leave her Johnny were my favorite shanties to sail to in black flag. I would memorize how many times I needed to press left or right on the d pad so I could hear them over and over again

@SeanDagher

Two great songs.
