The band is fronted by Becki Clark, who provides female vocals which are backed by the male vocals of guitarist David Stanton. The underlying music can be categorised as dark and atmospheric, combining lighter elements (such as clean electric guitars, classical stringed instruments and keyboards) with fast, heavily distorted riffs and powerful drums more commonly associated with heavy metal music.
Originally formed as Entropy by schoolmates Tim Gifford-Hull (lead vocals, guitar), Danny Russell (guitar) and James Humber (bass) in 1993 and later joined by Becki Clark (keyboards and backing vocals). David Stanton joined on guitar in 1997 after the demise of his own college band Armageddon. By 1998, the line-up had Matt Marriage (bass) and Paul White (drums), and the band had been renamed Season's End

Cover me in dirt,
The grave swallows me.
Promises of eternal memory,
Buried deep in the cold, cold earth.
Shroud me in flowers,
Cover me in earth,
Empty words of false piety,
Buried deep in the cold, cold earth.
Why has it been so long,
Since you said that you loved me?
Why has it been so long,
Since you put your arms around me?
Why has it been so long,
Since I felt loved?
Hollow words for an empty body,
Tears dripping over my head...
Shroud me in flowers,
Cover me in earth,
The grave swallows me.
Empty words of your piety,
Buried deep in the cold, cold earth.
My soul flies away...
"I'll shelter you with a long lost peace,
A kind heart in a fragile soul.
The kindest thing is to let you go,
But it's this that bores the hole inside.
How brave do I feel now,
Laying with you in the failing light?
How can I see your face,
Reflected in the shards of your shattered life? "
How long has it been,
Since you felt loved?
The song "Touch" by Season's End speaks of death, love, and the complexity of emotions that come with it. The singer asks to be shrouded in satin or flowers while being covered in dirt since the grave is swallowing them. The idea of being buried deep underground is a metaphor for being forgotten, and the promises of eternal memory or empty words of false piety mentioned in the lyrics accentuate the idea of the singer being forgotten.
The lyrics take a nostalgic turn when the singer asks why it has been so long since they last felt loved. The question can be interpreted in two ways - either the singer is already dead and is questioning why they have been forgotten or they are alive and are questioning why they haven't felt loved in a while.
Towards the end of the song, the singer talks about sheltering the loved one with a long-lost peace and a kind heart in a fragile soul. They call it the kindest thing but mention it causing a hole inside. The singer is brave when they lay next to their loved one, in the failing light. The last question in the lyrics, "How long has it been since you felt loved?" is a poignant reminder that the song talks about love and its significance, even in death.
