Stubborn Love
Seaway Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It was the year you wouldn't admit it
But you wished so hard that things would fall apart on me
Cause I ruined you when I couldn't quit it
You lost your mind over mine and I gave up
"This cycle is getting old," (you said so... you said so)
We crossed the line some time ago

Cause tonight your hair falls around your ears and it makes me want to stay. But I'm keeping at a distance for all the decisions that I've made to be gone, to stay gone
To be everything that you thought
It's all I've got

It's been a month and I'll admit it
I lost your eyes over time and I gave up
Cause nobody likes slipping out the back door
But I can't crawl back to you anymore
We crossed the line some time ago

Want to stay. But I'm keeping at a distance for all the decisions that I've made to be gone, to stay gone
To be everything that you thought
It's all I've got

Nobody likes slipping out the back door
But this is stubborn, yeah this is stubborn love
Yeah, this is stubborn, yeah this is stubborn love

But tonight your hair falls around your ears and it makes me want to leave. Cause I just can fake tomorrow and live with the someone I might be
So I'm gone, yeah I'm gone
Cause I'm everything that you thought
Cause I'm everything that you're not
It's all I've got

Yeah, this is stubborn, yeah this is stubborn love
Yeah, this is stubborn, yeah this is stubborn love

Overall Meaning

Seaway's song "Stubborn Love" is a poignant reflection on a past relationship that both parties are struggling to move on from. The lyrics specifically focus on the singer's inner turmoil and desire to distance themselves from the other person, despite the intense attraction they still feel towards them. The opening lines of the song set the scene, highlighting the fractures in the relationship, as the other person is wishing for the singer's downfall. This is followed by the admission that the singer's addiction led to their eventual separation. The line "We crossed the line some time ago" further emphasizes the emotional distance between the two parties.

As the song progresses, we see the singer grappling with their emotions, as their attraction towards the other person resurfaces. They describe the other person's hair falling around their ears, which makes them want to stay. However, the singer knows that keeping a distance is the only viable option. They're holding onto their decision to have left, as this is all they have left. The lyrics "To be everything that you thought, it's all I've got" show the singer is trying to hold onto their sense of self-worth, despite the relationship's end.

In the final verse, the singer struggles with the idea of what comes next. They admit that they've lost the other person's eyes over time and that they can't go back. They know that leaving is their only option and that trying to recapture past happiness is futile. The song's title, "Stubborn Love," thus suggests that both parties are holding onto the past, even though they know it won't lead anywhere positive.

I got to meet these guys at a gas station about 20 minutes ago.. I have never heard of them before. One was wearing a cool jacket that said "people don't like us, we don't care" which started a short conversation. He was very nice, and told me about the band.. Very glad to meet them on a rainy day in tennessee

@drumsno

Poor buggers. There's such a stigma towards pop punk. Even fans of it say it's a "guilty pleasure." im 31, I'll blast their music. I don't give a shit.
