Devil Is A Liar
Seawind Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

How many times in the back of your mind
have you heard a voice calling to you?
"Won't you come over here, let me talk in your ear,
I've got something tempting for you.

I can give you all of the world
with buildings that reach out to the sky.
Just write your name in my book today
and give me your soul when you die!"

There are bunches of cars, and big black cigars,
People living their lives by reading the stars
Nobody's a watching you now, you can take what you want
Wouldn't you rather have than have not?

Don't be a fool!

'Cause I can give you all your desires!
Precious diamonds and rubies found so rare
Just sign your name upon the line
And give me your soul if you dare...

But don't you believe
You'll be deceived
You're playing with fire...
'Cause the devil is a liar

But don't you believe,
You'll be deceived
You're playing with fire...
'Cause the devil is a liar

He'll promise you all his kingdoms of gold
Then he'll leave you standing alone in the cold
He'll trick you and tease you
Entice, and then leave you a fool...

The devil's done a number on you
The devil's done a number on you, yeah
The devil's done a number on you, child
The devil's done a number on you

Every hour of the day, the game of life goes on
And you and I will have to choose,
The right way from the wrong
And just when you would make your choice,
For the game you want to win
The tireless voice you know so well,
Starts tempting once again!

He tells us... there's no God above
And only foolish people fall in love
But it's plain to see
The devil hates you and hates me

Oh he'll trick you and tease you
And then he'll deceive you

So don't you believe - he's a liar
Don't you believe - the devil's a liar
Don't you believe - he's a liar
Don't you believe - the devil's a liar

Don't you believe, that you'll be deceived
You're playing with fire, the devil's a liar
Don't you believe, you'll be deceived
You're playing with fire, the devil's a liar

Don't let the devil do his number on you, no...
Don't let the devil do his number on you, now...
Don't let the devil do his number on you, child...
Don't let the devil do his number on you, now...
Don't let the devil do his number on you, child...

Don't let the devil do his number on you, child...
Don't let the devil do his number on you, now!

WJZZ is where I first heard this incredible tune. Spritual-based music many years ahead of the trend. I love this song as much as I hate the devil.

@mango5777

Simply amazing, 35 yrs old, classic , timeless. Pauline's voice was so, so good. Album up there with Carole King's Tapestry, Stevie Wonder's Innervisions and Songs In The key of Life.

I was at IU when Jerry Hey was playing trumpet in the IU Symphony. He was just about the most perfect trumpet player I have ever heard. He would spend hours in the music library taking off Clifford Brown solos etc. Kim Hutchcroft and Larry Williams were both in the IU Jazz band that I played in between 1970 -72. Those guys had amazing an amazing career in LA doing sessions for Quincy Jones and of course Seawind. The Seawind horns had an amazing sound. Wonderful musicians all!

@cherylkearney8491

Michael Woods No trumpeter more perfect to emulate than Clifford Brown

Baddest Spiritual group EVA. my mom and dad are Christians. And been listening to this since the Early 80s. I'm talking 80 -81. Bout 18 yrs ago I pointed it out to my Father that they were talking spiritual stuff in their songs, guess they never knew until I said so. My pops was annd still is a drummer. Guess he was not listening closely to the vocals. The Good Lord showed me that they were. He'd play the drums to these albums and play these song in our 1983 Dodge ram van on trips etc back in the early 80s too mid 80s. Sewinds music will always live in my ❤️. Thanks for the wonderful memories SEAWIND. 🤍🤍🤍

This song whispered in my head at least 30 years but I could never find it. I thought it was Angela Bofill .Thanks to a friend, he somehow found it and I'm grateful. Instrumentals and vocals are phenomenal!!

@a.p.murdock4081

There is that Bofill element.

@Americanjazzlady07

I love that song!!!   It is the truth. I love Seawind too!!  God bless you Pauline Wilson.   Whenever I go through a trial and satan lies, I will find this song and play it.   Brilliant music, lyrics and vocals by a woman who sings like an angel.
