History
The band, consisting of five members, was called Stutterfly until a key member, Chris Stickney, decided to leave shortly after they were dropped from Maverick Records. Stickney soon moved to a band called Oceans Apart. The rest of the band, Bradyn Byron, Jason Ciolli, Jordan Chase and Ryan Loerke, approached Charles Finn (then named Charles Furney), a friend and former member of thebleedingalarm, who used to tour with them, to be their new lead singer. The new line-up became Secret and Whisper on February 24, 2007. They decided to think of a new band name because of the completely different sound that Charles' voice brought to the band.
The band signed to Tooth & Nail Records and the first album, Great White Whale was released on February 12, 2008. "XOXOXO" was released as a single off the album with an accompanying music video.
On September 15, 2009 in a MySpace blog, Charles announced the official departure of Bradyn Byron. The band has since recruited David Ecker as guitarist. Ecker previously played guitar for Oceans Apart with former Stutterfly member Chris Stickney.
The first single off the second album, Teenage Fantasy, was "Warrior (Southern Arrowwood)". The album was released on April 6, 2010. On February 4, 2011, the band released a B-side track "Pixie" through myspace.
On July 12, 2011 it was announced via Facebook note that the band was going on a hiatus. Members of S&W Jordan Chase, Ryan Loerke and David Ecker have since gone on to form the band Shreddy Krueger.
Bedroom Galaxy
Secret And Whisper Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
will she fly to the afterlife,
or will she haunt your children?
My thoughts are logical in my bedroom.
I lay awake with a desperate moon.
I'm wishing it all away [I wish it away].
I don't need the anxiety.
Dirty yellow star hinting at who you are.
Do you feel dead, sinking into my waterbed?
The stars on my ceiling are glowing
[while] your life is a constant impending doom.
Watch the sun melt all the icicles.
Making friends is never logical.
Toss your body to the ocean for the gulls and seabirds.
They will watch with sun tan lotion in the salty air.
I know who you are,
dirty yellow star.
The lyrics of Bedroom Galaxy by Secret And Whisper are an introspective exploration of mortality and anxiety. The first stanza probes the question of what happens after death: whether the departed will ascend to an afterlife or linger on in the world, haunting future generations. This is a common fear among the living, and the uncertainty can cause anxiety and unrest, as seen in the lyrics "I lay awake with a desperate moon/I'm wishing it all away/I don't need the anxiety."
The second stanza starts with the imagery of a "dirty yellow star" hinting at who the subject is. This can be interpreted as a metaphor for the mark left by past actions or experiences that shape a person's identity. The singer wonders whether the subject feels dead and sinking into their "waterbed" - another metaphor for being stuck and unable to escape the weight of their past. Meanwhile, the stars on the ceiling of the singer's bedroom represent the vastness and beauty of the universe, a stark contrast to the ominous sense of impending doom in the subject's life.
The rest of the lyrics paint a picture of emotional volatility and a longing for release, with the sun melting icicles and the suggestion to toss one's body to the ocean for the seagulls and seabirds. The final line brings back the image of the "dirty yellow star" and the implication that the singer understands or recognizes something about the subject that others may not.
