Seemless were a stoner rock band formed by ex-Shadows Fall drummer Derek Kerswill, Killswitch Engage vocalist Jesse Leach, ex-Overcast guitarist Pete Cortese, and ex-Medium bassist Jeff Fultz. Hailing from Massachusetts, Seemless is one of the few non-metalcore acts to come out of that area and make a mark on the hard rock scene.
Formed in 2002 following Leach's departure from Killswitch Engage, Seemless was signed to Equal Vision Records, and released their first self-titled LP 2003. They toured extensively over the next year, quickly making a mark on the stoner rock scene with their mixture of soul and blues elements. However, the group never really got out from under the shadow of the acts that the members used to be in until the release of 2006's What Have We Become, which really boosted Seemless into the scene. Tours with the likes of Trivium, The Sword, In Flames, Lacuna Coil, and Fu Manchu garnered Seemless even more recognition, and they are soon to be featured on mainstream radio, with a remixed version of the single Eyes of a Child.
The band announced on 25th June 2009 that they have called it quits. They will be playing their final show in September 2009.
The Crisis
Seemless Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Spirits move beyond the flesh
Tortured soul
In a cage of flesh
Meant to be broken
Runnin' from the truth
When the truth will set you free
Deaf to the voice
Of the spirit that sets you free
To see the crisis
These eyes see life through death
Many are called but the chosen are few
The lyrics to Seemless's song The Crisis appear to be about accepting one's true self and the freedom that comes with doing so. The opening lines suggest that when we quiet our minds and connect with our spirits, we are able to transcend the limitations of our physical bodies. The phrase "tortured soul in a cage of flesh" suggests that we often feel trapped by our physical bodies and the limitations of the world around us. However, the next line, "meant to be broken," implies that we are capable of overcoming these limitations and discovering our true selves.
The chorus suggests that many people fear facing the truth about themselves and choose instead to run from it. However, the truth is what sets us free and allows us to see the beauty in life. The line "deaf to the voice of the spirit that sets you free" implies that we must be open to the wisdom and guidance of our spirits in order to discover our true selves and experience true freedom.
The final lines of the chorus suggest that it is only by accepting our mortality and embracing our inner selves that we can truly understand the beauty and meaning of life. The reference to "the chosen few" implies that not everyone is willing or able to make this journey.
