Selah started playing classic guitar when she was 15. When she was 17, she participated in an open mic night in 'Het Depot', a small venue in Leuven. Organiser of the event and successful Belgian singer Milow (born Jonathan Vandenbroeck) saw her perform and asked her to be his support act..
Her playlist consists of some covers (most notably The Zutons' Valerie), but mainly of her own songs. Late 2008 saw the release of the Black Part Love EP with six of them. This EP can be listened to integrally at her official website, www.selahsue.be. Thanks to multiple media and support appearances for the likes of Jamie Lidell, Novastar, Simply Red and Prince, Selah Sue is steadily gaining fame and respect.
On occasions she features as a vocalist for dubstep formation Addicted Kru Sound in local venues.
She's recently been named by the Rolling Stone magazine as one of the New Faces of 2012.

The more you are being less inside
The more it changed
The more you lost your place of mind
Girl...I know what it's like to feel this way
Girl,I do understand
It wasn't all that easy,yeah.
You're on the run,but it never comes easy
It could happen again.
You're on the run,but never comes easy
You better get out,my friend
You're on the run,but it never comes easy
The more you cried
The more you're being restless inside
The more it changed
The more your eyes stayed open at night girl
I know what it's like to lose your way
Girl,I do understand
It wasn't all that easy,yeah
But then your mom said "Enough"
But it's hard to stay yourself
And then it's hard to put yourself back on track
You need some help.
Find yourself,it's on the way
Yeah,yeah,yeah,yeah
But it's never easy,yeah.
You better watch out,my friend
You're on the run,but it never comes easy
It could happen again.
You're on the run,but never comes easy
You better get out,my friend
You're on the run,but it never comes eas
The lyrics of Selah Sue's "On the Run" explore the emotional turmoil and restlessness that comes with losing one's sense of self. The more one tries to suppress these feelings, the more exhausted and lost they become. The song acknowledges that the struggle to maintain a sense of self is not an easy one, and that finding oneself requires external help and support.
The first verse acknowledges the internal battle that one faces when trying to keep their emotions hidden. The more one tries to push these feelings aside, the more they lose touch with themselves. The chorus warns that running away from these feelings is never easy, as they will always reappear in a different form. The repetition of "you're on the run, but it never comes easy" emphasizes the idea that avoiding one's emotions is a difficult and never-ending cycle.
The second verse suggests that losing one's sense of self can lead to sleepless nights and an overall sense of restlessness. Despite this, the lyrics offer hope that finding oneself is possible with the help of others. The song concludes by emphasizing the difficulty of this journey, but that it is ultimately worth it to find oneself and regain a sense of purpose and belonging.
Overall, "On the Run" is a powerful exploration of the struggles that come with losing one's sense of self and the journey to regain it.
