@z k Like you. Most of these neo black metal bands sound more like 90s/00s melodic crust meets screamo than anything remotely black metal.
Sounds more like Hero is Gone, Tragedy, From Ashes Rise, PG.99, City of Caterpillar, Joshua Fit For Battle, One Eyed God Propechy, Uranus, Ivich, Kaospilot.
Sounds far less like Samael, Thou Art Lord, Enslaved, Mayhem, Old Mans Child, Limbonic Art, etc.
I think Selbst is good. But its hipster shit. Most of you have been listening to black metal for a few years at best.
If you want good, modern black metal check out Ravencult. Better than the hipster shit.

@Space Computer aka Computer From Space I agree but I don't mind... I grew up listening to Neurosis, Isis, Cult of Luna and Refused and i am completely stoked about the current sound of black metal ....
Also there is a more avantgarde/progressive and sometimes even technical side to these recent bands that I really dig....
Imagine how boring it would be if every BM Band still sounded like darkthrone and mayhem (as much as i like them as well)
