Uh, oh oh, oh
Uh, oh oh, oh
Uh, oh oh, oh
Uh, oh oh, oh
You walk and talk
Like you're some new sensation
You don't need an invitation
You spend your money
You can't get no satisfaction
You play it right so you can get the right reaction
It won't be long my darling
Pick up the phone, nobody's on it
Where are your friends now baby
Aren't they the ones supposed to be there for
You (you)
You're falling down
The world's not spinning 'round
You (you)
When you're falling down
No, it's not all about
You (you)
When you're falling down
You know I'll be around
When you're falling down, falling down
Falling down, down, down, you're falling down
What's out of place when you look into the mirror?
The truth is blurry but the lies are getting clearer
Your eyes are fixed, your smile is so elastic
You gave me roses but they're all just made of plastic
It won't be long my darling
Pick up the phone, nobody's on it
Where are your friends now baby
How's anyone supposed to be there for
You (you)
When you're falling down
The world's not spinning 'round
You (you)
When you're falling down
No, it's not all about
You (you)
When you're falling down
You know I'll be around
When you're falling down, falling down
Smile for the camera, everybody's looking at ya
Smile for the camera, 'cause they're all about to trash ya
Smile for the camera, camera, camera, smile for the camera
Who's gonna catch ya?
You, you
You (you)
When you're falling down
The world's not spinning 'round
You (you)
When you're falling down
No, it's not all about
You (you)
When you're falling down
You know I'll be around
When you're falling down, falling down
Smile for the camera,
Everybody's looking at ya
Smile for the camera
'Cause they're all about to trash ya
The lyrics of "Falling Down" by Selena Gomez & the Scene are an honest and determined response to the superficiality and the pressure of the entertainment industry. The song is a criticism of fame and the way it changes people as they become more concerned with their image and what others think of them. The first verse portrays a person who behaves like they are the center of the universe, spending money and seeking attention, while the chorus suggests that their behavior is catching up with them and they are realizing that the world doesn't revolve around them. The second verse is about the same person's identity crisis, as they realize they are fake and their lies are more prevalent than the truth. The bridge is a critique of the media and how it is quick to judge and ridicule those who fall from grace.
The tone of the song is hopeful, as Selena Gomez & the Scene offer themselves as a friend to their subject. The chorus' repeated lines "When you're falling down, falling down," serve as a reminder that everyone falls, and that in those moments, it's important to have people around you who care.
Overall, "Falling Down" is an assertive and memorable song that speaks to the price of fame, the fickle nature of the entertainment industry, and the value of true friendship.
