When she returned home to Seattle, she fine-tuned those songs on her Martin guitar, and later recorded the album with help from fellow musician friends on a wide array of instruments from pedal steel to banjo.
Her self-titled, self-released debut album reflects her love of both old-school country music and modern low fi, and has been dubbed "the love child of Cat Power and Buck Owens." After it's release in February of 2006, Sera's album was met with wide-spread critical acclaim, including being named one of the top ten albums of 2006 by NPR's Stephen Thompson, and "one of my favorite albums of the year local or not" by KEXP DJ John Richards.
Sera is currently touring off and on in support of her album "Only as the Day Is Long" released on Sub Pop in March of 2008.
Naked
Sera Cahoone Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
But I've got everything you love
In this room
In this nighttime
So don't leave me here tonight,
In this shitty hotel room
There's blankets on the floor
The fans been out for way to long
For us in here?
In Sera Cahoone's song Naked, the singer is begging their lover not to leave as they express their desperation to hold onto the relationship. At the start of the song, the singer acknowledges their lover's desire to be somewhere else but they try to convince them that they have everything they need in the current environment. They go on to describe the setting in which they find themselves, a dingy hotel room that they share with their partner. The description of the room is somewhat bleak, with blankets on the floor and a fan that has been out for too long. However, the singer is determined to make the best of it and proposes that they make their stay in the room easier by staying together.
The chorus of the song expresses the singer's fear of being left alone, as they plead with their lover not to leave them in the hotel room. The sense of urgency is heightened by the repetition of the phrase "don't leave me here tonight" throughout the chorus. The lyrics suggest that there is an underlying tension in the relationship, and that the singer is clinging to the hope that they can work things out.
Overall, the song Naked is a poignant and emotional portrayal of a turbulent relationship. The lyrics are both raw and relatable, conveying a sense of vulnerability and longing that many listeners will identify with.
