Everyone else is belly's full.
Your eyes are open windows for the truth.
I'm scared you're gonna leave us here.
Sweet baby you've made so much clear,
To me your songs are written on the roof.
Taken out of my window panes.
Making sure everything is just alright.
Maybe you're just a make believe.
A story that I like to read.
Torn from all the pages of my life.
I'm heavy weighing down it's true.
But someone's got to try and prove.
The truth I think that maybe someone's you.
You're one of a kind, stuck on my mind.
Trying so hard just to be fine.
Heaven help us if you fade away.
Maybe you're just a daydream.
Taken out of my window panes.
Making sure everything is just alright.
Maybe you're just a make believe.
A story that I like to read.
Torn from all the pages of my life.
I wanna give you mine.
I wanna give you something.
I wanna give you mine.
I wanna give you something.
Baby you're just a daydream.
Taken out of my window panes.
Making sure everything is just alright.
Maybe you're just a make believe.
Story that I like to read.
Torn from all the pages of my life.
Oh, oh, oh.
Oh, oh, oh.
In the song "Daydream" by Serena Ryder, the lyrics explore the feelings of uncertainty and fear surrounding a loved one who is struggling with illness or possibly even nearing the end of their life. The opening line, "You're living in a hospital, everyone else is belly's full," instantly sets the tone for the song as a contrast between the singer's reality and that of their loved one. While everyone else is living their lives, enjoying themselves and their health, the loved one is stuck in a hospital, facing a very different and potentially heartbreaking reality.
The second verse reveals the singer's fear of losing the person they care about. They describe the loved one as having "made so much clear," which could be interpreted as the loved one having shown them what really matters in life or possibly having provided clarity on their own mortality. The use of the phrase "To me your songs are written on the roof," could suggest that the singer finds solace in the loved one's perspective, as if they offer a unique viewpoint that is enlightening to them.
The chorus repeats the idea that maybe the loved one is only a "daydream" or "make believe," implying that the situation is too surreal to be real. However, the final repetition of "I wanna give you mine, I wanna give you something," speaks to the singer's desire to support the loved one in any way they can.
Overall, the song "Daydream" bravely confronts the reality of facing a loved one's mortality, while also acknowledging the beauty and uniqueness of that person's perspective.
