In 2004 she released her debut album Unlikely Emergency, which included the single "Just Another Day" which gained significant airplay on many Canadian radio stations. The album was released with the production help of Hawksley Workman, who contacted the CBC after hearing her perform on a local Live radio broadcast. The album was recorded at his studio and released on Workman's Isadora imprint.
Serena is currently signed to EMI Music Canada, and in late 2006, she released her major label debut featuring a collection of Canadian cover songs If Your Memory Serves You Well. This sophomore release featured three originals, including the standout single "Weak In The Knees", which was also featured on the 2007 'Women & Songs Volume 11' compilation.
Ryder soon found herself opening major concerts for the likes of Aerosmith and she won the 2008 Juno Award for "Best New Artist."
In November 2008, Serena released her third album, Is It O.K., mixing original work with a reprise of "Weak In The Knees". She was nominated for two Juno Awards for 2009 - including 'Artist of the Year' and 'Adult Alternative Album of the Year' for "Is it o.k.", which was eventually released in the USA almost a year later on Atlantic Records. Serena generated further awareness stateside with a duet with American Idol graduate Jason Castro on his debut album.

There's a memory of the way you used to be
Nothing's gone, it still shines, every time you turn it on
And when you slow it down
People working every night and day
Never give yourself no time
Got too many bills to pay
If you give yourself some room
To move to the music you hear
Gotta get up, listen to me
Clappa your hands, stompa your feet
People looking for the great escape
Looking to the greener side
Trying to find a better way
Slow down, open up your big brown eyes
Feel the rhythm in your heart
You don't even need to try
Gotta get up, listen to me
Clappa your hands, stompa your feet
Nothing is wrong, if you move to the beat
Clappa your hands, stompa your feet
Stompa your feet
When you can't seem to shake off all the feelings that are breaking
Little pieces of the music that's in you
All the pain that you feel
I can prove it's not real
There's just one thing you gotta do
Gotta get up, listen to me
Clappa your hands, stompa your feet
Nothing is wrong, if you move to the beat
Clappa your hands, stompa your feet
Stompa your feet

In Serena Ryder's song Stompa, the lyrics emphasize the importance of taking a break from life's hustle and bustle to enjoy the simple pleasures of music and rhythm. The opening verse comments on how even when times change and memories fade, there is always a light inside that can be reignited. The following verses encourage listeners to slow down and take a breather from the busy routines of life, reminding them that bills will still be there later on, while the beauty of music may not. The song suggests that rather than seeking the “great escape”, one should open their eyes and find the rhythm in their hearts, to which they should stomp their feet and clap their hands.
The repeated refrain “Clappa your hands, stompa your feet” serves as an invitation to the audience to participate in the song's message by engaging in its upbeat, lively energy. The lyrics suggest that if people allow themselves to feel the beat and move in harmony with it, their worries and pain will fade away. Stomping feet becomes a metaphor for asserting one's presence, and the chorus encourages listeners to embrace their own power, even if it is only through the simple act of participating in a joyful rhythm.
Overall, the song's lyrics deliver an optimistic message that encourages its listeners to celebrate their own being and engage in the spontaneous and primal act of dance.
