Serge Lama Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
In Serge Lama's song Je ne me sens vrai que sur la scène, the lyrics depict an artist's love and dependence on the stage for authenticity and connection with his audience. The opening lines show that the singer's serenade is not cheerful, indicating that the performance is more genuine when it is free from the pressure and scrutiny of the spotlight. The lyrics also mention that love, warm sentiments, and emotions lose their impact and energy once they are expressed in private places like apartments. In contrast, the stage is where the singer can express his genuine emotions through his words and emotions fully.
The second verse reinforces the artist's reliance on the stage to find his true self. The lyrics describe the stage as the only place where the artist feels comfortable in his own skin, and where his true passion soars. The singer also reveals that he can be too intense and emotional when he performs, urging women in the crowd to beware of his overzealous affection. The lyrics emphasize that it is only on the stage that the singer feels empowered, where he can give his all and receive instant feedback from his audience.
The final verse emphasizes the transformative power of performing for the singer. He describes his ordinary self as a shadow, a mere noise, and a melting sun. But when he is on stage, he feels like he is a superhero who can accomplish anything, and whose words and music reach deep within his listeners' hearts. The artist highlights that he sees himself as a catalyst for transformation, changing his audience's perception of reality and making them feel seen and heard.

Ailleurs, les femmes me font peur
Elsewhere, women scare me
Hors la scène, je suis une ombre
Offstage, I'm a shadow,
Un soleil que la vie fait fondre
A sun that life melts
Je vis mais je n'existe pas
I live but I don't exist
Je ne suis que le bruit de mon pas
I am only the sound of my steps
Sur la scène je suis la flamme
On stage, I am the flame,
Je fixe droit au cœur des femmes
I strike right through women's hearts,
Je fixe dans les yeux, bien droit,
I stare straight into their eyes,
Des hommes bien plus forts que moi
Stronger men than me

@@ericeric3449 Je ne fume plus
Je ne rêve plus
Je n'ai même plus d'histoire
Je suis sale sans toi
Je suis laide sans toi
Comme une orpheline dans un dortoir
Je n'ai plus envie
De vivre ma vie
Ma vie cesse quand tu pars
Je n'ai plus de vie
Et même mon lit
Se transforme en quai de gare
Quand tu t'en vas
Je suis malade
Complètement malade
Comme quand ma mère sortait le soir
Me laissant seul avec mon désespoir
Je suis malade
Complètement malade
J'arrive on ne sait jamais quand
Tu pars on ne sait jamais où
Et ça va faire bientôt deux ans
Que tu t'en fous
Comme à un rocher
Comme à un péché
Je suis accroché à toi
Je suis fatiguée, je suis épuisée
De faire semblant d'être heureuse
Quand ils sont là
Je bois toutes les nuits
Et tous les whiskys
Pour moi ont le même goût
Et tous les bateaux
Portent…

The best performances of this song, just like when Brel sang Ne Me Quitte Pas, i think has a lot to do with the fact that it’s deeper than just a sad song.
Part of the song is that they still believe the relationship is there, it’s all about the fact that they don’t want to believe it’s over.
The best way I can explain this is that if you watch Brel sing Ne Me Quitte Pas, youll see that he’s almost smiling at the beginning. It’s as if he’s trying to convince himself that he doesn’t think it’s over.
And by the end of the song, the same sentiment is still there but the smirk fails and you can literally see him having to admit to himself that it’s over. And at that point, he’s literally begging her to stay.
It’s so much more than just a sad song about a relationship that’s over. It’s about the process of at first not even being able to believe that it could ever be over, and yet staring that fact right in the face as the person tells you they’re leaving.

@moussaka1544
Je suis d’accord
@michellaurence4547
