well, i think it's just too good we have recordings of rachmaninoff, however he plays.. listen to hungarian rhapsody 2 and see what he does. just priceless!

Obviously a very capricious interpretation, certainly by our standards today.

Rachmaninoff never plays the pieces "correctly". I just look for his interpretations when i want to hear different versions.

Playlisting some of the Finest Recordings

I looove this. This is Rach! So romantic and pensive at the same time. How he sings and broods! I have heard stories that Rach disapproved of this recording. Perhaps it was because he was too much himself in this recording. I usually am not crazy about Rach recordings of composers other than himself, but this one is an exception. And his golden tone is beyond words. I cannot see how this can be bad, and for example J Hofmann's f minor ballade wonderful. Absolutely ravishing. Thank you!

That's why he goes so far away from what is writen at the score, that changes the composer's intention with the piece. Rubinstein is my second choice for this one. My favorite version is Lugansky's. XD

yep, me too, but by "doesn't feel quite right" i mean it doesn't resonate with me the same way as rubinstein's, not that it doesn't feel correct

psyence5150

the pacing doesn't feel quite right in this one... i like rubinstein's interpretation better
