I read someone say that this is wider in scope than the Sonata No. 2, which is absolutely true to me. The second Sonata is virtuosic, dazzling and at times heart-rending, but this Sonata tells a story which is cosmic in scale. Both are great, (I think the second Sonata is more fun to listen to), but this is the more powerful work by far.
