Ashkenazy is so unique. This fabulous sensitive musical playing. Wonderful interpretation.

@pc5111

A truly epic double note study; on the same level as the Op. 8 no's 6 and 10 by Scriabin.

With all due respect to the comments about Chopin, Liszt, Feux Follets, and so on---Rachmaninoff knew all of these of course, and was writing in an openly Romantic way, but still--Rachmaninoff has his own unique sound, and created works of stunning originality, not pastiche. 1:05 to 1:15 for instance; no one else sounds like that... a hauntingly Russian sense of harmony, texture, climax. And the last 6 bars hark back to the ending of op23 #3 in d minor, which is also pure Rachmaninoff.

Couldn't agree more

@TheLifeisgood72

Scriabin sounds like that

@Lisztomaniac1022

@@TheLifeisgood72Scriabin: The Schubert of his lifetime, fantastic but in the shadow of a massive titan. For Schubert it was Beethoven, Scriabin: Rachmaninoff

@TheLifeisgood72

@@Lisztomaniac1022 Absolutely not. Scriabin was more popular than Rachmaninoff in his day
