This is actually not a mistake in the movie script.  If you watch and listen to the majority of the things adults say through out the film, they are quite often blatantly "wrong" or mistaken.  I believe this was done to accent Willy Wonka's desire to find a child that is not already tainted with adulthood and has a head filled with preconceived and wrong ideas about the world.

@Seriona1

This man gets it.

@simonkawasaki4229

That’s actually a good point.

@spacestationosaka

Very astute

@emanhacker

Hawknight Talk about a joke going wayyyy over your head. Wonkas hand was huge on that piano. That’s exactly why she said rachmoninov. Rachmoninov had giant hands. The joke was a brilliant adult joke for anyone who knows that rachmaninoff could play stuff with one hand that would normally take two hands for normal people.

@SeanORaigh

This is such a gloriously niche joke for a kid's movie.

Sean O'Reilly It isn't a kids movie. Mel Stuart stated that he intended the movie to be for adults.

@grandbluepianistofthesky9469

@@aldenmitchellswaby6822 You sure?, If so, the Tunnel of Terror scene makes sense.

@aldenmitchellswaby6822

@@grandbluepianistofthesky9469 Yes. In an interview Mel Stuart said it wasn't intended for children

@annabetz1314

Sean O’Reilly you are so niche. “nouveau niche”, with a side of amuse bouche.
