Volver
Sergio Y Estibaliz Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Sergio Y Estibaliz's song Volver speak of the importance of returning to one's roots and of rekindling lost love. It begins with the advice to enter and close any open doors, for it may be the last one left. The songwriter compares the remnants of a previous home to her own longing for what has been left behind. She speaks of returning to her home like wheat returning to the bread, with hands that were once muddy now carrying the scent of the city. She remembers the kisses she shared that were as cheap as paper flowers and nights that never seemed to end.

Volver, or to return, is the chorus of the song that is repeated throughout, like a mantra. The songwriter believes that it is better to return and undo the path that was once taken. To return naked like yesterday with nothing but faith in our hands. To allow what has been broken to be reborn and fill the void that was left between two people. The lyricist uses metaphors to make the song more impactful, such as the idea that love is like a young moth, that may be vulnerable, but it can still fly. The song ends on an optimistic note, saying that it is better to return and fill the hole with love that was once lost.
