Lakeman grew up with his two brothers Sean and Sam in the village of Buckland Monachorum in West Devon, England. He began playing music with his parents and two brothers at an early age. As The Lakeman Brothers, the three brothers released their debut album Three Piece Suite in 1994. Later that same year they were invited by two Yorkshire based singers Kathryn Roberts and Kate Rusby to join them as a backing group on a tour of Portugal. After the tour the five musicians became a permanent group and called themselves Equation. The group were signed in a record deal with Time Warner in 1995. After three full albums (Return to Me in 1996, Hazy Daze in 1998, and The Lucky Few in 2000), and tours in the UK, Europe and the United States, Lakeman left Equation in 2001. With his brother Sam he appeared on Sam's wife Cara Dillon's eponymous debut album, which featured Lakeman on fiddle, guitar and vocals. The album won two awards at the 2002 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.
In 2002 Lakeman released his first solo album, The Punch Bowl, which received wide critical acclaim including a review in fRoots magazine which said: "The songs don't just glide smoothly by.....they get their claws into you".
Kitty Jay, Lakeman's second solo album was released in 2004. The title track of the album tells the story of Jay's Grave, a well known location on Dartmoor. That same year he collaborated with Devon singer-songwriter Steve Knightley and young local singer Jenna Witts on the album Western Approaches.
A UK tour in Autumn 2005 followed his Mercury Music Prize nomination, after which Lakeman and his band (regularly brother Sean on guitar, Ben Nichols on bass, Andy Tween on drums), toured extensively with folk-rock band The Levellers, who took to closing their set with a "fiddle off" between Lakeman and Levellers' fiddler Jonathan Sevink. Other support tours with Billy Bragg and Jools Holland brought Lakeman's music to a wider audience.
In March 2006 Lakeman began a UK tour in order to promote his new album Freedom Fields which was released on iScream. He signed to a new major record label, Relentless Records, promptly releasing a new single "Lady of the Sea" in early August 2006.
His fourth solo album, Poor Man's Heaven, was released on 30 June 2008 with an accompanying tour. It introduced a rockier edge to the folk of the previous albums. His fifth solo album, Hearts & Minds, was released on 19 July 2010. Lakeman released his sixth album called Tales From The Barrel House on 18 November 2011.

Image Of Love
Seth Lakeman Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And pick me that sweet taste,
I've been so bitter and blinded,
But done the best they say.
And love will find my way.
Lay me on old ground,
Play me that soft sound,
Into the best they say.
Love will find my way.
The image of love, it'll dig you out,
And tunnel above to the heart-filled house.
So tear down those walls and reach the day.
The Image of love will lead the way.
Show me your leisure,
With a chest full of treasures.
We'll go searching together
Until we find our day.
Love will find our way.

The lyrics of Seth Lakeman's Image Of Love talks about the search and journey for love. The song starts off with the singer asking someone to show him a beautiful place and to provide him with a sweet taste, implying that he has been exhausted and disillusioned with life. The following line “done the best they say” suggests that he has been trying his best but has still not succeeded in finding what he desires, that is love. However, the singer maintains the belief that love will eventually find him.
In the second verse, the singer asks to be laid on old ground and to play soft sounds for him, expressing his desire for comfort and soothing. He falls from a tall tune and into the best as they say. This implies that he will surrender himself to love when it comes and does not want to force it. The chorus talks about the “Image of love” that will lead the way and tunnel above to the heart-filled house. This suggests that love will help the singer find a place of happiness and a fulfilling relationship. The singer finishes the song with asking someone to show him their leisure and to go searching together until they find their day.
Overall, the lyrics of Seth Lakeman's Image of Love speak of hope and perseverance in the search for love. The image of love acts as a guide through the journey and will eventually help the singer find happiness.

Show me a great place,
Please show me somewhere wonderful to go
And pick me that sweet taste,
And bring me something delicious to eat
I've been so bitter and blinded,
I've been unhappy and unable to see clearly
But done the best they say.
But I've done my best as people tell me to
And love will find my way.
And I believe that love will guide me
Lay me on old ground,
Put me down on the earth
Play me that soft sound,
And play me something gentle and soothing
I fall from a tall tune,
I am moved by a powerful melody
Into the best they say.
Towards what people consider to be success
Love will find my way.
But I still believe love will guide me
The image of love, it'll dig you out,
Love is powerful and will help you overcome any obstacles
And tunnel above to the heart-filled house.
It will lead you to a place of love and warmth
So tear down those walls and reach the day.
So break down your barriers and seize the moment
The Image of love will lead the way.
Love will show you the path to follow
Show me your leisure,
Give me a glimpse into your free time
With a chest full of treasures.
With all of your precious belongings
We'll go searching together
Together, we'll search
Until we find our day.
Until we find our moment of happiness
Love will find our way.
And once again, love will guide us
