Shahmaran
Sevdaliza Lyrics

I'd weigh a million pounds if you were gravity
I'd take a billion pills if they gave me sanity

Time has passed me by
Share my great advice
For granted, taken nice
Weigh a pit underneath the light

The force that perfect us
And all the affections
As they infect us, love couldn't help us
Ooh, you crawl underneath me

I'd die a million deaths, and you'd resurrect me
I'd fall a billion times, but you wouldn't let me
You wouldn't let me

The force that perfect us
And all the affections
As they infect us, love couldn't help us
Where would I go?
Where would I go?

Where would I go?
Where would I go?
Where would I go...?

Ooh, you crawl underneath me

FOR ALL OF THOSE WONDERING WHAT THE VIDEO MEANS: (an excerpt from an interview with the director of the video)
"With Sevdaliza’s music and energy in the film, Ghanaian director Emmanuel Adjei tells the story of the black man, who continues life in a cycle of oppression. The modern chains on black men today are the aspirations of decadence, power and success that create a false sense of autonomy and freedom. This leaves them victim of addictions to power and materialism, unable to venture outside what is 'expected' of their behaviour. The film serves to show two very different marginalized individuals (Sevdaliza & Adjei) supporting one another, whilst respecting each other’s space and voice. The visual element came to fruition after Adjei and Sevdaliza came to a symbiotic understanding that ‘Shahmaran’ was her music to his story.

Director, Emmanuel Adjei, comments: “Carrying the burden of their ancestors, most black men today are still born into an environment that limits their freedom. Lost in a hazardous place from which they can’t seem to escape, their survival mechanisms have become their guide when making decisions. Whilst growing up, they have learned to fixate on the place where they know they need to be. Drawn to the dream of having power and success, they hold on to a false idea of autonomy. Yet, it is this house of freedom that has enslaved these men again. Chained to a fantasy, often of a materialistic nature, they remain upright throughout survival.”

Film director and visual artist, Emmanuel Adjei, has collaborated with musician, Sevdaliza on several projects. In ‘Shahmaran’ his creative vision challenged them both to deconstruct characters and the very format of their artistic expression."

He broke free... and forgeting his freedom, still became a slave.

He encountered a "mirage" of freedoms & power... forgetting he was already FREE.... we witnessed his choice and exposure of enternal lust, via his submission to mental enslavement.

Our lives are a result of the choices we have made.

"What have you chosen to become a slave to?"

Let's all choose to embrace that we are already free!

:::Just MY interpretation; not a definite meaning.::::

Shahmaran is a (Mythical Middle Eastern hybrid androgynous creature wise & rightful, can see thousands of miles to help whom lost! maybe that’s why sevdaliza wearing this beautiful crystal eye-wear many stories about her yet the name is most likely came from a region in modern day Iran after the travelers or hunters stories of that place) it is also a modern day village in Iran the name means “The Princes” for that area was famous for young royals with Arab/Persian/Bakhsh or other ethnic origins to go there and hunt for leisure also to prove themselves by being great leaders & hunters for it was a really really wild & barren place with nothing to hunt also some travelers used to see jinns or ghosts “most likely its hallucinations due the lack of food or water”, some people would go there to bury curses “sort of ancient evil magic” or looking for an Oracle Jinni that can fulfill your dreams once you give him or her something valuable (each person has a different thing) .. so basically this place was always related to (proving yourself/fulfilling your desire & some other dark business)🌚💔

Note : in some dialects this name means the King of snakes or the Snakes ruler, so just keep that in mind.

Back again to this marvelous video:
1- first thing to notice is that they’re all African Americans (thug style with mashup of Christian and Egyptian mythology references on them/ they represent the American Dream maybe).
2- they are trying to pull a yacht like in a desert which shows how pointless what they’re trying to do or to show sufferings.
(My guess it is a symbolic of how people being materialistic/ how materialism is pointless when you are losing your nature).

3- one of them give up or free himself and realize everyone dies without succeeding on what they had have attempted.

4- he finds himself lost without being materialistic (because he has no goals in life but to fulfill his material desires).

5- he escape nature to something out of this world, so materialistic and lustful .. is she a goddess or the oracle Jinn ? Or just the fusion of that mythical androgynous spirit?

6- he then realized the truth ., he don’t needs guns, luxury, a wish or sex .. he needed water! That’s what he needs after wandering the barren desert he needs nature and nothing else is more luxurious than a pleasure of sipping some water or washing your face with it.

7- Then his desires just collapsed/vanishing with his wide open eyes back to the first scene again!, he just realized the truth!
(All of what we materialistically desire is just a mirage that made us lost in our journey of life).

The last scene: Oh! He’s dead in the barren desert his last wish was just to have some water! 💦
(As he close his eyes and surrenders to death on the first scene 0:11)

So is she that ancient oracle jinni ? Or that androgynous mythical creature which is most likely been inspired after the oracle jinni itself .. or maybe she’s just a mirage !? Not sure but always like to leave it unanswered because this is Art not a booklet or manual-guide tutorial 💛😉

We are as modern humans living in the anthropocen era .. which unfortunately is all about materialism, now a homeless can get a free WiFi but can’t get a free water?! We forgot how to read the sky and how to find pleasures & fulfillment in this life without being materialistic 💔

This is how I would like see this beautiful artwork.. and this is what I would like to think sevdaliza would try to say.
💙✨
Edit: Remember Water is the most luxurious thing on this planet so please don’t waste it if not needed, thanks! 🙏 I edited again to add few more points, hope it’s not way too visually cluttered! Thank you all!

It shows all the great civilization being carried and made on the back of all the minorities slaves unrecognised oppressed .....
Not knowing it's all a game of smoke and mirrors ....

one can choose the vengeance and will to power through guns or choose the promises of riches in the next kingdom...

As such we are all invited to drink from the water of knowledge and find the truth
of who we are and our true destiny and call...

The Godess seduces those who hear her melody between all the noise existent .. (mainstream music)
but for the few select who understand true art
she offers redemption and a new beginning a new reality away from the desert of unhappiness ...

submerge and reborn to your true nature ...

Be a rebel don't conform ....never conform ...dare to be different.

Is it ok for me to analyse this video? The new century, plasticity of it, being carried by slavery of dry emotions... A man wakes up from the dream, and searches the vast desert for answers. He finds a temple of ancient wisdom, and the wisdom tests him; fancy vehicle or having possessions.. will he pick a weapon to fight? In order for the true battle to win, one must give up art as well, in art, we rarely see. We are entranced. Finally, will he fall for a woman? No. He seeks water. He sees the water beneath the Goddess and drinks from her. Or.. was there one more test? Was this failure? Did he drink from the water or from a woman? He failed the test.
