Don’t Leave
Seven Lions Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Baby I can't be what you want me, to be
I've given you everything I sailed, the sea
Baby there's fireworks in my heart, setting off
Darling I wish you hadn't let us fall apart

I promise I try to let this go but
I can't breathe
If only you knew how much I give you everything you need
So in the space and time around us, to waste
Baby I think I'm losing you, I can see it in your face

Don't leave
Don't leave
I need you
And I need you
Eh

And I
And I need you
'Cause lately you've been the world to me
I need you
'Cause lately you've got the best of me

Fall apart, fall apart, fall apart
Fall apart, fall apart, fall apart

Don't leave
Fall apart, fall apart, fall apart
Don't leave

I promise I try to let this go but
I can't breathe
If only you knew how much I give you everything you need
So in the space and time around us, to waste
Baby I think I'm losing you, I can see it in your face

Don't leave
Don't leave
And I need you
I need you

Fall apart, fall apart, fall apart
Fall apart, fall apart, fall apart

Don't leave
Fall apart, fall apart, fall apart

Don't leave
Fall apart, fall apart, fall apart

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Seven Lions's "Don't Leave" discuss the complex emotions that come with a relationship falling apart. The song begins with the singer acknowledging that they cannot be what their partner wants them to be, despite having given everything they had in the relationship. The second line, "I've given you everything I sailed, the sea," is a metaphor stating that the singer went the extra mile for the relationship when in comparison to the popular phrase of going to the ends of the earth for someone.

As the song progresses, the lyrics suggest that the singer is struggling to keep the relationship together, as they feel that they are losing their partner's interest. They see the "fireworks" in their heart, but cannot seem to reignite the spark in the relationship with their partner. Though they promise to try to let go, the singer cannot shake the feeling of suffocation and desperation in the relationship, repeating "I can't breathe" throughout the song.

The chorus serves as a plea for their partner not to leave, reiterating twice with a sense of urgency "Don't leave." Despite recognizing their partner's loss of interest, the singer emphasizes how much they need them, and how they have become the "world" to them. The repetition of "fall apart" represents the realization that the relationship has already disintegrated, and the singer is struggling to hold onto its last threads.

Overall, Seven Lions's "Don't Leave" is a melancholic song that tells the story of a disintegrating relationship and the desperate need to hold onto it. The lyrics outline the struggle of one partner attempting to keep the love alive, even in the face of their partner's dwindling interest.

!!!???!!!

So long ago?!?

Yeah, I guess so ...

What was gym music then (the gym's, not mine, the gym being my introduction to the song), is high music now.

I love vocal trance when I'm in a certain mood --- and, when that occurs, this is up there with the classics.

Not a bad workout song either, if I must say.

Damn, I certainly cant find melodic 128bpm bangers like this anymore.

Honestly, Seven Lions is the artist of the decade for the 2010's imo. He made better trance synth lines than actual trance djs, and harder/meaner bass drops than pure dubstep artists. Oh, and then put them both in the same song... absolute genius
