No I never let you see
No I never drink my poison
Unless it's good for me
No I never ponder confusion no
Or sit around and wait to see
Watch the outcome of a certain situation
[Chorus: ]
Yeah it's up to me
What will be is up to me
No I never make a choice unless it's up to me
And I never give a reason
No I never sink my teeth in
No I never take a bite
No I never sink my teeth in unless I feel the right
No I never play the jokerman
Sit around and wait to see
Or watch the outcome of a certain situation
I had in mind for eternity
[Chorus: Repeat 2X]
The Seven Nations song "God" is a powerful anthem about self-determination and taking responsibility for one's actions. The opening lines speak to the idea of self-preservation - the singer states that they "never drink [their] poison" unless it's good for them. This could be interpreted as a metaphor for not engaging in self-destructive behavior unless there is a positive outcome that can be derived from it. The idea of choice and agency is emphasized throughout the song, with the lyrics "no I never make a choice unless it's up to me." This speaks to the idea that we are in control of our own destinies, and that the choices we make have a direct impact on the outcomes we achieve.
The line "No I never sink my teeth in unless I feel the right" speaks to the importance of intuition and trusting one's instincts. The singer does not act on impulse, but rather takes the time to assess whether a situation is right for them before committing to it. The refrain of the song, "What will be is up to me" underscores the idea that we have agency in our lives and the power to shape our own futures. The song is a call to action - to take responsibility for our own lives and not to wait for others to make decisions for us.
