(Written & arranged by Kirk McLeod)
Please don't tell me you want to go home now
There must be something, something that we could be doing
Let's stay out, the trains will run until morning
Because I don't want to go
Please don't make me go
Please don't tell me you want to sleep now
There must be something, something that we should be doing
Let's stay up the trains will run until morning
Because I don't want to go
Please don't make me go
I don't want to go home to bed now
Because when I close my eyes
There's too much time between
When I close them and the time I fall to sleep
But please don't think that I'm weak hearted
Because I don't want to go
Please don't make me go
I don't want to go home to bed now
The song "Trains" by Seven Nations has a clear theme of wanting to stay out and avoid going home. The lyrics express a longing to continue being in the present moment instead of facing the future, where one's mind might be left alone with too much time to think. The repetition of "please don't make me go, I don't want to go home to bed now" emphasizes the singer's desire to stay in the moment and live life to the fullest; they don't want to miss out on any opportunities for adventure or excitement.
The symbolism of trains in the song indicates that time is passing by, and the listener is encouraged to make the most of the time they have. The trains run until morning, suggesting that there is still time to enjoy the night and delay the inevitable. However, the singer knows that eventually, they will have to face reality and go home, but they want to postpone that as long as possible.
Overall, "Trains" is a song that captures the desire to live in the moment and not worry about the future. It encourages taking risks, seizing opportunities and avoiding regrets. The use of trains as a symbol is apt as they have been historically linked to movement, speed and the sense that time is slipping away.
