Seventh Star has toured the US several times and has had the pleasure of sharing the stage with the likes of Agnostic Front, Hatebreed, Sick of it All, Blood for Blood, Shai Hulud, Most Precious Blood, Comeback Kid and As I Lay Dying.
2004 was a turning point for Seventh Star. After returning from a winter tour in 2003 with Hoods and Haste the Day, Seventh Star were three members and one van short of a touring band. They took a hiatus in 2004 to re-group and resurfaced with singer Johnny Intraivaia and guitarist Chase Moore.
With this solidly dedicated line-up, Seventh Star plowed through 2005 releasing their heaviest, most dynamic album to date, βBrood of Vipers".
After a European tour they recorded "The Undisputed Truth" and released it on Facedown Records in 2007.
March.29th will be their last show in 2008, They have announced that they will no longer be a band after Facedown Fest.
Just wanted to add that they announced that they will be breaking up as of March 2008.
The Torch
Seventh Star Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
One thousand "true til deaths"
Saying the same thing over and over
Lives contradicting the label they give themseves
When in passing the torch did we kill the flame?
Different place and a different time
It's the same face and the same rhyme
Regurgitate jargon the backwash of the kids before
Fading convictions replaced with the status quo
Beliefs traded for comfortable acceptance
Different place and a different time
It's the same face and the same rhyme
Who can go against the crowd
When the crowd is forced into the same mold
When will we start to think for ourselves
This scene can't save your soul
The lyrics of Seventh Star's "The Torch" express frustration with the current state of a particular subculture, where people proclaim their loyalty to a certain set of values and ideals, but fail to live up to those principles in their actions. The opening lines paint a picture of a community rife with betrayal and hypocrisy, where individuals are quick to turn on each other despite declaring themselves to be "true til death." The repetition of the phrase "saying the same thing over and over" suggests a weariness with the cliches and platitudes that seem to dominate discourse within the subculture.
As the song progresses, the lyrics question whether the torch of this community's ideals has been passed on faithfully from one generation to the next. The lines "when in passing the torch did we kill the flame?" speak to a sense that something has been lost in translation, that the original spirit and passion of the subculture has been snuffed out over time. There's a frustration with the lack of growth and creativity within the community, as people seem to be regurgitating the same old ideas without adding anything new or substantial to the conversation.
The final lines of the song indicate a desire for individuality and independent thought, rather than following blindly along with the herd. "Who can go against the crowd when the crowd is forced into the same mold? When will we start to think for ourselves?" The repetition of the lines "different place and a different time, it's the same face and the same rhyme" underscores the idea that nothing will change unless individuals are willing to break out of the tired patterns and cliches that dominate the subculture.
