The original members were Richard Fielding and Andrew Wright, and were soon joined by Tom Ellard. This later changed to Garry Bradbury, Paul Deering, and Tom Ellard; Ellard has been the only one to remain throughout the group's career, with changing lineups throughout its two and a half decades of existence, later working mainly with Stephen Jones. Robert Racic was an integral part of the band during the late eighties/early nineties.
Severed Heads performed a final concert in Sydney in January 2010. Tom Ellard uploaded a farewell video of Sevs in Space to Youtube, which may be considered as a requiem of sorts.
In early 2008, Ellard added the following text to the bottom of the official site's front page, "Severed Heads do not have a MySpace page. It is a fake. The band is dead,". (www.sevcom.com).

Severed Heads Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You're my Bangladesh
I'm crazy dynamite
Cause I'm the cactus man
I drive a Lamboughini
I stop for petrol
(?) junior
I'm alone tonight
I'm your cactus man
I drive a Lamborghini
I stop for petrol
The lyrics "Million dollar pig junior, you're my Bangladesh, I'm crazy dynamite, cause I'm the cactus man" seem to suggest that the singer is addressing someone they see as a wealthy, entitled individual ("million dollar pig junior") who is dependent or subservient in some way ("you're my Bangladesh"). The singer, in contrast, sees themselves as unpredictable and perhaps even dangerous ("crazy dynamite") because they have embraced an identity as a nonconformist outsider ("I'm the cactus man"). The subsequent repetition of "I drive a Lamborghini, I stop for petrol" reinforces the singer's identity as someone who values material possessions but is also aware of the need for maintenance or upkeep.
The second verse similarly juxtaposes grandiose claims ("there's tornadoes in Spain") with a sense of isolation or alienation ("I'm alone tonight"). The repeated refrain suggests that despite the singer's sense of detachment or otherness, they can still participate in the mainstream culture through their acquisition of a luxury car. The song as a whole has a somewhat surreal quality, with the lyrics often containing seemingly disparate references and images that nonetheless contribute to a mood of dislocation and uncertainty.
