Sorry, I couldn't help but notice.. Sex Pistols are punk. Real punk. British, Londonian, anarchist punk.
Punkrock is everything from Green Day to Avril Lavigne ... it can have political agenda like left punk, the stuff antifa listens to, but this was the real punk.

Basically they didn't learn instruments, their agenda was noise and provocation, they hated everyone, including their band, but they hated the rest more.

Oh and if you water punk rock down until you coe across Blink182 you're left with punk pop.
Which - is nice, but hardly trv anymore.

What I’ve always loved about the UK is the great, honest music they produced. I used to listen to that as a teenager, as punk music was popular in the early 90ies. I had their tape and played it all the time.

Johnny is actually performing something interesing singwise... The sound is snotty but obviously he could continue that way the next 48 hours... He employes the false chords and actually keeps the larynx pretty relaxed. Many may not understand but the best classical singing traditions can be presented partially or fully in many many ways... Johnny is a musician and doing a quite nice job here (and on other pieces too). Never judge the book by its cover ;)

Early Stranglers were very angry punk.
The New York underground scene ran befor the UK punk scene tho there was no real sense of 'movement' as there was with punk.

@Galactic Guardian eventually they did, but the German punkrock band "die toten hosen" (the dead pants) famously alotted instruments by drawing out tickets, so I know at least one case where they in fact did not know their instruments when they started the band.

Now I won't say all punks are shyte at their instruments, but in my mind I associate punks far more with a high dedication to being punk, than with a virtuoso musician culture...

In fact Imma go ahead and say punks who can play their instruments usually play metal XDDD
(of course this is a gross generalisation, sue me XD)

@Galactic Guardian Oh you actually listened to them, cool!
You might have missed that they were founded in 1982, so they did in fact learn their respective instruments over the course of time..
Also they are way less punk than they used to be, which is why I'd comfortably classify them as Punk Rock, sometimes even somewhat Pop-Punk these days ^^

But yeah, I have heard - and I've hard this story quite often - that they started off with randomly drawn instruments, which sounds pretty punk to me ^^

Not a punk fan at all, but still love this. Johnny Rotten is incredible. And I grew to admire him so much when I learned he attempted to publicly speak of the goings on of J. Saville, when so many more knew about it but turned a blind eye. Imagine someone like Johnny Rotten was actually so much more morally superior than all the polished acts on T.O.T.P.'s at the time, not to mention the bigwigs at B.B.C.
