Satellite
Sex Pistols (Live) Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Suburban kid, ya got no name
Two ton(e) baby and ya got no brain
I bet you're only happy in suburbian dreams
But I'm only laughing cause you ain't in my scheme

Hey baby
I love you
I love you
I love you

I only ever listen when you're on the phone
From your safety where you sit at home
When I got nothin' better to do
Then there is always you
Cause you're good for my shoe

Hey baby
I love you
I love you
I love you

I'm in love
Yeah in love
Oh, can't you feel it?

No I don't like where you come from
It's just a satellite of London
And when you look me in the eye
Just remember that I wanna die

Hey baby
I love you
I love you
I love you

You're the name but you can't tell
Lookin' like you just came outta hell
How did ya figure that'd you'd any use?
All you're gonna get is my abuse

Hey baby
I love you
I love you

I love you
I love you

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to "Satellite" by the Sex Pistols are a scathing attack on suburban life and those who lead it. The singer ridicules the "suburban kid" with "no name" and "no brain," and dismisses their "suburban dreams" as unknowing and insignificant. The chorus, "Hey baby, I love you," is ironic and mocking, as the singer clearly has no affection or respect for the subject of the song.

The second verse emphasizes the singer's detachment and superiority, as they admit to only paying attention to the suburban kid when they're on the phone and have nothing else to do. The line "Cause you're good for my shoe" could be interpreted as dehumanizing the subject, reducing them to a mere object or accessory.

The third verse is perhaps the most biting, as the singer declares their disdain for the suburban kid's hometown as "just a satellite of London." The final lines, "How did ya figure that'd you'd any use? All you're gonna get is my abuse," reinforce the singer's contempt and cruelty.

This video has the architect of the SEX PISTOLS' music in it.
The great GLEN MATLOCK.
They showed their appreciation by kicking him out of the Band.

I think Rotten and Matlock clashed on a personal level.
Whereas, Rotten was very good mates with Vicious.
Vicious looked the part, he became the poster boy for Punk.
Luckily, I saw Glen play LIVE with The Pistols in October 1995 in Sydney.
In 2017, I saw Glen play at The Landsdowne Hotel in Sydney.
I stood a meter away from him, right in front of him.
The whole Band were bloody awesome, one of the most special gigs I've been to.
Glen said, the Drummer had just turned 18, it was OK, his mother knew he was out tonight.
Met him after the show, he was a TOP bloke.
We talked about the writing of "DID YOU NO WRONG" which is a personal favourite of mine.
He was great.

1 album, 4 singles, 2 years. 4/5 blokes that supposedly couldn't play or sing. Greatest band in the world, ever.
Quality over quantity.
